Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis M. Percy.
Travis, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Educated at Tufts University and a student of life, I come from resilient ancestors from Africa, Trinidad and Tobago, and the US. After receiving job offers from global investment banks and top management consulting firms after graduating university in May of 2018, I moved to LA to pursue my true path.
Working over 19 jobs in the first six years of my career, traveling to over 50 locations, I have worked on Wall Street, at Harvard Business School, for Big Four consultancies, and other non-corporate entities. My work and research span over 7,500 miles and I bring a lively spirit, genuine curiosity, and consistency to my work as an implementer, creative speaker, and crooner.
I communicate and create to transform culture.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
From battling a deep depression my sophomore year of college due to perfectionistic habits to trying to carve out space in business, life, and friend/family circles as a queer black male, the road has not been smooth. But I’ve learned to turn my wounds into wisdom, and this reminds me I’m never alone. I build bridges with words, music, and business to expose the truth in our perfect imperfections as people. I’m interested in co-creating sustainable solutions, not magnifying problems and negativity.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Generous Hustle Podcast story. Tell us more about the business.
A society and culture podcast, The Generous Hustle features the stories, methods, and motives of world-class generous influencers. It examines practically how to tame the ego, end the zero-sum success game, and integrate generosity into life and work in a way that pays, serves, and satisfies. Generosity is a gateway to addressing what fundamental change requires for true justice to manifest. So, stay tuned, a video series and book featuring many inspired and informed insights from hundreds of interviews I’ve conducted are in the works too.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
One of the hardest things to do in this social media age is to be a person of substance trying to reach people with quality content, not click-bate, not a get rich quick scheme.
As an intentional communicator interested in really communicating to transform culture, build bridges between our common struggles, and forge new ways of freedom toward our best selves and society, it’s not easy.
I have to work overtime to show people how much I really care. If it were up to me, I would spend zero time promoting online, because it feels a bit fake and forced, and I don’t love the idea of online self-promotion.
But I’m learning to do it anyway and show that consistency and compassion count for something even if they’re uncommon.
