Meet Trailblazer Vanessa Medina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Medina.

Vanessa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always been in love with photography and picked it up by watching my mom, she was no pro but she always had her camera with her. She documented all of the different moments in my life and I cherish them so much, so once I was old enough, I decided that’s what I wanted to do as well.

I lived in Miami for 2 years taking photos of runway models and did a lot of print/editorial work. Once I moved back to California, I continued in the fashion industry but decided I wanted to get back to my roots and shoot family, engagements, and weddings. I had always had a love/hate relationship with weddings though, they are just so nerve-racking and stressful because of how big the days is. You can’t mess up, lol! Nowadays, I’m a lot more confident and have learned to enjoy them because I get to work with such awesome couples and just be creative.

I’m constantly learning because in this industry you never stop. There’s always some new program or updated version of everything so you got to stay on your game. I’ve come a long way and each year, I can see the progression in my work. Practice makes perfect.

Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road, even to this day. I struggle with things like everyone else, especially comparing my work and self to others. It’s hard not to but one thing you got to keep in mind is that we just have to be happy with the person we are and keep working hard.

We’d love to hear more about Vanessa Medina Photography (VMedinaPhoto).
I am a photographer and I specialize in family, engagement and wedding photography as well as fashion and lifestyle portraiture.

I love that I can make my couples feel comfortable and let loose in front of my camera. If they can’t be themselves, it will definitely show in the pictures.

I believe what sets me apart from others is the fact that I will do what it takes to get the shot and make my clients happy.

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I feel that woman are well-positioned for any opportunities they can put their minds to, there really isn’t any limit to what we can do. As long as you want it and work towards it, you will get it.
