Meet Trailblazer Terri Nguyen-Yang

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terri Nguyen-Yang.

Terri, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In my wildest dreams, I never thought I would quit my corporate job to start my own business. After spending over 10 years working in finance, I decided it was time to move on from the inflexible hours and the long commute.

My floral studio came about when I least expected it; I was looking for a creative outlet from my 8-5 job. I started arranging flowers for my friend’s weddings and then for my friend’s friend’s weddings and eventually those friends of friends offered to pay me for it.

It’s been 6 months since I received a steady paycheck and I haven’t looked back…

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely wasn’t a rose bush lined path. I saved as much as I could while I had my corporate job, but nothing will ever be prepared you for the role as “entrepreneur.”

The most common challenge is probably the competition, but if you love what you do, people will see the worth in your craft. Just believe in yourself. And what I come to learn is, there’s enough business for everyone.

We’d love to hear more about Love Note Events.
I am an event florist and my ideal clients are the romantics-bohemians lovers. I love the golden hour and organically arranged flowers.

I love working with newly engaged couples because you can feel their love and excitement. It’s that same energy that I feel when I put together their wedding floral.

What separates me from other florists is the person you meet during your consultation is the same person putting together your floral. And the same person who is on-site setting up for your wedding.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
It’s a wonderful time to be a women entrepreneur right now because the women before me paved the way for me to compete in this male-dominated society.

One of the ways women are breaking down the barriers is that there are more and more women in leadership roles, such as entrepreneurship. And we are supporting/celebrating each other.
