Today we’d like to introduce you to Shima Katouzian.
Shima, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in Tehran, Iran. In a religious family of sorts. But also open-minded enough to let me fly. I am 30 years old and I have 30 years full of worldwide experiences. I’ve been to 30 countries, I can tell I know 30 cultures but only 5 languages. By working at UN and iNGOs, I can claim that I have helped more than 30 people (I hope so!).
I have been laid off, been judged, been attacked by women, men, been weak, tired, frustrated but mostly motivated enough to go on.
I’ve had ten different jobs making the whole career of being an entrepreneur. Currently, I am handling three different businesses, married and a dreamer.
Negativity (surprisingly) is my inspiration! I know that I was born for a reason, I was born to make the world a better place compared to how it was. Hence, I worked with sexual and gender based violence cases. I’ve worked with women empowerment projects and I encourage women to spread the word every day.
I express my feelings through fashion. I wear what I feel and I want the Fashion Industry to be more like that. People wearing their feelings and that is the reason I founded www.herosheema.com, a platform for women to share their art, feeling and designs, so they’d be used on fashion pieces for other women.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I do not think any road to a dream is smooth enough to enjoy thinking about that dream! And mine wasn’t an exception either.
Being afraid or waiting for help needs no plan, but being courageous does need an absolute plan. I recommend you to make a plan and stick to it. Does not matter how far your destination seems to be, by having a plan at least you’d know what needs to be done.

I’m an entrepreneur with three different businesses but HeroSheema project is my favourite one because it’s my dream coming true.
The mentality of HeroSheema is that We all wake in the morning with an artistic thought. With a love that can’t be expressed. With the potential that has never been utilized. Lines, shapes, colors, and words running through our minds in all different directions. So, why do we stop ourselves from pursuing those things which define us, drive us, give us a purpose to fulfill?

I am honoured to be lucky enough to make my own dream of designing, fashion and women empowerment coming together on one display founded by me. And can’t wait for the final product to be ready and being sold with stories of women all around the world.
What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Be real! You don’t have to try to be unique. Because you already are. So, just be yourself and put your reality daily. Then, you’ll get to know and meet likeminded people who’d make your network.
By having a network, you can offer any service of products by having your potential clients being there w/out any cost! How great is that?
