Today we’d like to introduce you to Roxanne Flett.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Roxanne. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up in a small town in Northern California, in a blended family, with me being the youngest of six siblings. Throughout my entire life, I have always worked very hard, with an incredible sense of detail on every level, ranging from my schoolwork to participation in sports, to having the most organized room in the entire house. My Mom was quite organized herself and she loved reinventing spaces in the home on a regular basis. I vividly remember coming home from school and seeing her pushing furniture around, transforming a tired space into a fresh, new look. I remember admiring her creativity and drive to work so hard, as she transformed spaces room by room, month after month. Looking back on my Mom’s decorating abilities, I can see that her behavior has definitely worn off on me and if a “decorator’s gene” exists, then I truly have inherited my decorating/staging gene from her.
I now own my own Home Staging and Interior Design company, where I can enjoy the addiction of transforming spaces on a regular basis, just as my Mom did. It truly is “what I do and what I love”. My only regret is that my Mom isn’t alive today to see me carry on her legacy, as I know not only would she have been proud, but she would have rolled up her sleeves and went to work right alongside me.
Has it been a smooth road?
I wish I could say yes, it has been a smooth road, but I wouldn’t be doing any justice to other new women entrepreneurs if I were to say that running a business has not presented its challenges. I can easily say that I underestimated the time and energy it takes to run a business. You must continually work to find new business, be able to speak up about your business, analyze your competition and be prepared for the long haul and the sacrifices that need to be made in order to succeed.
My advice to other women wishing to open their own business would be to know yourself, choose the right business for you and plan to succeed, no matter what the challenge… because no challenge is more challenging than the challenge to improve yourself.
We’d love to hear more about Elegantly Stated Home Staging.
As the Owner of a Home Staging company that manages a variety of services, my specialty is in vacant home staging. I absolutely love walking into an empty space and bringing a vision to life. I believe my passion for vacant staging speaks for itself, as I was recently awarded Top Ten Rising Star Home Stager of the Year, Vacant Category by RESA® (Real Estate Staging Association).
Although, home staging is a majority of my business, I am actually known for my holiday decorating and event planning. Independently, I have hosted numerous events over the years for just about every holiday, incorporating many different themes and color schemes, but I must say Christmas decorating is my passion. I usually have 6-8 fully themed and decorated trees in my home every year. I find the beauty of the holiday decor very calming, satisfying and rewarding.
I am very proud of the reputation and recognition my company has received. Being an awarded home staging company and certified home stager definitely sets us apart from other companies and is a true differentiator amongst our competition.
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I am an open-minded person and I believe there’s always room for self-improvement. Reading books that can help you become a better person and help you understand others is a great way to improve the quality of your life through self-knowledge and understanding. “The Laws of Human Nature” written by Robert Greene, although rather lengthy, is a great way to learn about people’s drives and motivations.
