Meet Trailblazer Lauren Higgs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Higgs.

Lauren, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve lived in LA for three years (going on four) and I can honestly say: I’ve never been so busy in my life, I’ve never accomplished so much in three years. In 2017 an internship at Green Room Management in Hollywood, CA is what started my roots in this crazy city. The founder, Alex Czuleger really took a chance on me, he taught me everything I know about the foundations to this industry. I’m very blessed and humbled to have had a boss like that.

One day I was invited to go on set for a Disney Channel show where I met one of the Green Room’s clients, Jimmy Wong (Actor / YouTuber). That was the day my life essentially changed. Jimmy Wong hired me as an Executive Assistant and I learned everything about social media, YouTube, production, business and more. The craziest experience was when I got to help market big Hollywood movies in China, the latest was Legendary’s movie: Detective Pikachu released in 2019.

When Jimmy and I decided to go separate ways, I naturally got involved with social media. I became in love with the process of creation, storytelling, and color design. There is so much thought and intention that goes into a single Instagram post – I love that!

Los Angeles is a funny town because everyone knows each other. I worked on so many cool projects with amazing creators and then developed the most beautiful friends out of this experience. I got a call from a friend Jake Stein, and he said “ Hey Lauren, Do you want to work for Carole King and Jesse McCartney?” I just started laughing, like what has life turned into these days? Absolutely, yes!

None of this was easy, for anyone still reading: please don’t think this is some fairytale story. LA is one of those cities that knocks you down but you have to get right back up again. I have never faced so much drama and chaos in my life but I will also never let anyone decide my fate for me. I guess that’s the Houston, Texas girl in me – I’m finished with something when I decide I’m done.

Which leads me to say this… I was finally done being everyone’s Executive Assistant in Hollywood. I’m so thankful for all the skills I’ve gained and trust me they come in handy to this DAY. I wouldn’t trade those years for anything! However, I knew I was burnt out and social media marketing was my next jump.

Coachella in 2019 was the spark that ignited this newfound fire. I love dressing up in festival wear and Coachella is the most aesthetically pleasing spot to take photos. My dearest LA friend, Jacob Quiroga (@shakeyjakeee) put me on in so many ways. He showed me this new wave of creativity and photography. We went to weekend one together and he took every single photo that weekend. I tagged brands, got reposted, and started getting offered brand deals. My first official brand deal was Showpo and I still work with them to this date. I owe a lot to Jacob because I now make a living traveling, creating for brands, and my biggest accomplishment of all: working with Revolve. This was a goal of mine for two years and I feel like I’m living in a dream.

In adjacent to working with brands, I also manage social media accounts and work alongside Marcie Jastrow (I can’t begin to brag on her enough). Let’s just say my life is booked and busy; I’m all over the place. Especially now that I’m dating a Pokemon Go player, Mystic7 – In the past six months, we have traveled to Greece, Japan, Mexico, New York, Chicago, Texas, and more!

Can’t wait to see what happens in 2020!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The struggle was and is real. If you know then you know, but the industry is hectic. Every single day you have to work hard for your job, know your moral code, and be social even though you’re exhausted and want to be in sweatpants. Lol. It’s so true though. Not only that but people spread rumors and lies faster than our California wildfires. The best advice I can give is: Never forget who you are at the core, never be afraid to be yourself, and never be afraid to tell people no. If something doesn’t feel right, its because it isn’t. Trust yourself.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I work for the internet and I specialize in social media marketing/content creation for brands. I’m known for being unapologetically myself and that shines through my Instagram page. I’m definitely proud of all my brand partnerships but Revolve is closest to my heart. I’m really happy about that one. I’d say something that sets me apart is encouraging self-love and body confidence. The pressures of social media and the bullying has got to stop. I shut it down so fast!

Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I like to use the app calm or headspace for my daily meditations! I’m all over the place for podcast content but I like a classic GaryVee get up and go for it pep talk. Also, Casey Neistat has some amazing motivation videos, my go to favorite is: Do What You Can’t.
