Today we’d like to introduce you to Karri Davis.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Karri. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I graduated with BAs in Theater and English from Whittier College, where I also minored in art. Since, I have been pursuing a career in acting while freelancing, traveling and exploring both abroad and within the US, and developing my lifestyle Instagram page as a micro-influencer. I cover topics from fashion to foodie finds and always try to find cool locations or events to showcase. I have always gravitated towards outlets that let me express my creativity, which has lead me to where I am today, and where I see myself going.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I feel as though “success” or the idea of it has been a long and slow journey for me, and I am by no means at the end of it. The only advice that I can give is to be consistent, stay motivated and believe in yourself. People love to say “you are your own worst critic,” but really, you are your best cheerleader too. No one is going to believe in you if you don’t believe in yourself. You just have to advocate for yourself and ask for the things that you want in life.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I guess I’m considered an “influencer” but I have many passions. I am an actress, a story-teller, a writer. I am a foodie, a fashionista and a wanderluster. I always look to fill my life with things that are unique and different. When it comes to Instagram, I try to provide great content, but I also post whatever I want. My page is not so curated that I feel bad about posting something just because it doesn’t fit in with my “brand.” I am my own person and I embrace that. Every photo may not turn out perfectly, but it perfectly represents me.
I think that a lot of people stay in their comfort zone; they don’t venture outside of the radius of the bubble that they have created for themselves — they visit the same bars on the weekends, they stay close to home or work, they have “usual” spots where they go to visit or hang out. I am all over the place. I don’t have a “usual” anything. I like to try new things and visit new places and those are the things that I post about. I think what makes my page attractive to a lot of people is that it allows them to live vicariously through me and discover places and things that they otherwise wouldn’t on their own.
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
I think that women are “well-positioned” for any damn opportunity that they want, but it’s true that, oftentimes, we have to work harder for it.
