Meet Trailblazer Jennifer Vu

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Vu.

Jennifer, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born in northern CA & moved to LA for college. I went to FIDM then furthered my career at SMC. I always knew I wanted to major in Fashion. I’ve loved it all my life. I fell in love with blogging because it was an amazing way to express yourself, your style, & your individuality. I would love to work in couture & runway & hopefully start my own line.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road! Working in fashion is a competitive & long road. You must really want it & have your heart in it 100%. My advice is not everyone is going to like you or your style & you have to just accept that & don’t change for anyone else. Don’t give up & be patience & keep putting yourself out there. Good will come.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m an assistant designer in downtown Los Angeles for a runway brand. I also run a fashion blog called Carousel Couture, which is currently under a revamp, I’m big on Instagram & currently working on a couture line. I’m proud of everything I’ve accomplished so far. I’ve worked very hard to get where I am & what sets me apart from others is my style & my creativity.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I think the barriers for female leadership has gotten so much better over the last few years! People take females more seriously & we stand up more & demand the respect we deserve.
