Today we’d like to introduce you to Genessis Meza.
Genessis, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started using Instagram as a creative outlet about a year ago after I graduated college. I’ve always loved fashion and beauty, but I surprisingly used to be a very private person. After college, I was hit with the post-grad blues of not knowing exactly which direction my life was going to go and I used Instagram as a fun outlet to escape all that. I even started a YouTube channel, which I never in a million years thought I would ever do. It was therapeutic. After a few months of keeping up with social media, I started to see it do well, and I even started to get brands emailing me to collab. It’s been a cool hobby of mine and I genuinely do love creating content.
Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing in life will ever be “smooth” but if we’re talking about my journey as an “influencer” then things have been pretty smooth sailing thus far. I’ve learned a lot in my short time here. I think what a lot of people don’t realize is that this is a business and that these women are intelligent, creative, and graceful. My best advice to other women starting their journey is: do you. You have to really know yourself, what you want, who you want to be or else, it’s so easy to jump on someone else’s boat and just be them instead.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a blogger or content creator for fashion and beauty. I love editing photos and videos for my Instagram and YouTube. I post independent photos as well as some that involve me working with brands or small businesses. I love working with small businesses because I get to see the love and hustle these young entrepreneurs put into their products.
Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
I’ve always loved photography and editing. However, I used to always be behind the camera, so maybe that helped me develop a good eye for things? Other than that, I would have never actually pictured doing this and putting myself out there as much as I do now.
