Today we’d like to introduce you to Candy Washington.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Candy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
At my core, I’m a storyteller. I started my career in fashion as an intern in the PR department of Louis Vuitton in NYC. From there, I went into marketing and public relations while building my blog, brand, and social media presence on the side. I also started doing on-camera work in commercials, TV spots, and films.
Once I decided to become a full-time content creator and build my lifestyle brand, Actress with Style, I moved to L.A. and started cultivating relationships with fashion, beauty, and entertainment brands and pr firms. I’ve been able to create my own lifestyle brand from there.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest obstacle was deciding that I deserved to be successful and that I didn’t have to be ashamed of my ambition. Especially in the influencer and social media space, people will ask you to work for free, but you can’t if you want to do it as a profession.
Working on your mindset, self-confidence, and self-esteem is imperative when starting out because you’ll have to learn how to say, “No,” and more importantly, not to personalize it or give up when you hear, “No.”
We’d love to hear more about Actress with Style.
In addition to being an actress, writer, and content creator, I’m also the founder of the lifestyle brand, Actress with Style, that provides insightful, inspiring, and always empowering content across TV, film, and digital platforms. I specialize in fashion, beauty, health, and entertainment.
I’m proud of sharing my experiences and expertise on panels discussions and articles that I have written that have been published. I’m also proud of my two shows for Disney Style and my docuseries for Varo Money.
Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
I’ve also loved writing and performing, so I wrote stories, plays, and poems as a child that I would perform at school and at church. I learned from an early how powerful and meaningful storytelling is.
