Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandy Florence.
Brandy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story involved many turns and setbacks but in the end, I didn’t give up. I just kept getting up and following the new path. My background is in healthcare. I am currently a healthcare administrator for a well-known healthcare organization. Over the years, I have always felt that I had a story to tell and have the gift of helping others even when it seemed that I couldn’t help myself. So in 2018, I became a certified life coach and started a doctoral program in organizational change leadership. Now that I have completed my degree, I am planning to launch both my coaching business and to start my consulting firm.
Has it been a smooth road?
No the road has not been smooth at all. It has been a jagged cloudy road. I have experienced so many obstacles along the journey that sometimes it still surprises me that I did not lose my mind. I’ve experienced failures, my dream as a child was to become a cardiologist so when I didn’t pass the MCAT I was devastated and didn’t know what my next step would be so I went down the path of the administrator role which allowed me the opportunity to work with the doctors as well as assisting in leading the organization. I have been laid off several times, I have lost my home to bankruptcy and most recently, I was falsely accused by one of my professors who happened to be a black woman which was very disheartening, but in the end, it did not prevent me from obtaining my doctorate.
Advice that I would give to young women who are just starting their journey is to never give up on yourself. You are going to have setbacks and disappointments but they are all life lessons that you will need to succeed. Be kind to yourself and give yourself permission to fail and not be too hard on yourself, we are all human the path will not always turn out exactly the way you planned it and that is ok.
We’d love to hear more about Inspirationalbflo.
There are so many things I do aside from my full-time career as a hospital administrator. I’ve had a non-profit organization which focused on youth age 13-18. The goal was to inspire them to follow their dreams and to help them with the resources to aid them along the journey. I am also a mentor and a chaperone who takes children on college and international trips to allow them to see the possibilities outside of their surroundings.
I am known to inspire others, being a person of service always willing to give my time and my heart. I am a dependable friend/person with integrity and morals and being an active member in my church and my sorority.
I think what sets me apart is I’ve always been the same person I don’t waiver from who I am at the core what you see is what you get, I have never tried to be anyone other than who I am. I don’t do what I do for accolades or applause I just do it from my heart and I do it no matter who is watching or who knows. I love people and helping in any way that I can whether that be a friend, family member or even a stranger.
Which women have inspired you in your life?
Oprah has always been an inspiration; she has never let what happened to her in her life become a crutch or a reason to not continue to excel and achieve success. She always does things from a place of love and faith it’s not about the fame. So, to me it’s about being your true authentic self and taking a chance on you and believe that you can achieve whatever you put your mind too.
