Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Post.
Ashley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I moved out to sunny Los Angeles on October 2013. I moved here to finish my BFA in Musical Theater at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. I studied the first two years at AMDA in the big juicy apple, NYC. Even though I absolutely loved New York, I wanted to see what LA had to offer. After I graduated from college, I was cast in a play and numerous short films. Even though my heart ached for NYC life, I knew I was meant to stay here in LA.
Has it been a smooth road?
You know, just like in life- there’s always ups and downs. Sometimes, when I feel like nothing is going my way, something ends up turning around eventually. I know that is so cliche but it really is true. I mean, there was a moment recently where I was the lowest I’ve ever been in my career- thinking about “what am I doing here; Should I just quit?” you know, the classic lines actors tend to say to themselves in their bedroom, and that same week someone broke into my car and stole everything, both of my roommates decided to move out last minute, and a lot of other changes in my life were happening. Needless to say, I was in this dark hole. But then, I told myself- “Ashley, you do not know what is around the corner- you don’t even know what next week holds! So, why are you worried about anything?! Things can change in an instinct. Don’t let this worry, ruin tomorrow’s sunshine” (I may have stolen that from a friend- shout out to Marissa). And very soon after that, I booked a modeling job and helped a friend with an acting gig! So, all that worrying was for nothing. OH! Another thing- surround yourselves with people, especially women, who always support you. Always. Anyone who is negative, selfish, or is tearing you down, ditch them. Seriously, I’ve had to learn the hard way when it comes to that but once you figure that out, it is such a breath of fresh air- which you need in this city of smog.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of as a company? What sets you apart from others?
I first and foremost am an actress, but I also am a singer, model, writer, comedian, vlogger, and yoga instructor- so a lot of things- which you kinda have to be in LA. I am most proud of my determination I have for things. Whether it’s creating a character, sketches, stand-up set, or anything to help me get out there (in a positive light of course), I will do it and I will not give up. I realized that not a lot of people have that, and not to knock anyone down at all, but I have realized that unique fact about myself and I love it. Also, the passion to always collaborate with other people. Right now, I am collaborating on at least 3 projects and I’m so happy. Just collaborating with other people who have amazing talents and getting to lift them up as much as them lifting me up is so beautiful and meaningful to me.
So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well-positioned for?
I think this is SUCH a wonderful time to be a woman (woot! woot!). I mean, there has been more strong, powerful women being seen in the media and film than there has ever been. It is so empowering. I especially love it because growing up, I was used to seeing only the beyond beautiful women on screen and usually playing “weaker” roles. Now, you see all amazing types of women on screen/the media which is so encouraging for our generation and the next generations to see. If you put your mind to it and work hard, ANY WOMAN can be strong, brilliant, powerful, compassionate, brave- ANYTHING.
