Meet Tracy Winters of Stay Out of the Gutter in San Pedro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Winters.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Tracy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Rosanna came to me one day to ask if I would be interested in starting a rain gutter company. At that time, we had one rather large property management company in need of having all of the gutters on their properties cleaned and repaired. From that we found that other management companies as well as single family home owners had a similar need for this service. We began advertising in a few different publications targeting property managers, and property owners. In the beginning we only focused on cleaning and repairs. Believe it or not the entire operation started, and operated out of my Honda Civic. We quickly realized that many of the gutters were beyond repair, and quite a few clients were calling for new gutter installations. We bought a van and a seamless gutter machine. It was not easy. We worked long, and arduously every day. Eventually, we were rewarded with a successful business that has provided for our families, and the families of our technicians.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
For the most part the struggles have been minimal. Our biggest difficulty has been retaining technicians during our slow season. Many of them find steady year round jobs during this time. Many seasons have begun with hiring and training new technicians. The last few years we’ve been blessed with a really solid crew, and enough work to keep them busy the entire year.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Stay Out of the Gutter – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a full service rain gutter company. We do cleaning and repairs, as well as new gutter installations. We work with some of the largest property management companies in L.A. and Orange County. We are very well known for our custom downspout fabrication. I am most proud of being able to provide an income for all of the technicians and their families. I often here from our customers that we are reliable, on time, and always come in at or below budget.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I see a need for at least one more truck and crew in the field. We have also been toying with the idea of solar panel cleaning.
