Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Sulprizio.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We are a classic-style arcade.
It all started with one pinball machine at home. But these things have a habit of multiplying and before we knew it, there was no more room in the house. Then, we ran out of room in the garage. At that point, we decided to open an arcade to share our love of the games.
We bought the building and spent about four years renovating it from an empty shell. We had to totally rehab the building including building the office and both bathrooms, plus the carpet, paint, and all of the lighting and electric.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The arcade still doesn’t have enough business to support itself. We still both work full-time during the week and open the arcade on the weekends. We hope to get to the point where we can hire a small staff and be here full-time.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We are a family-owned classic arcade. Currently, it is run by just the two of us. We have a selection of video games, pinball machines, VR, motion simulators, Dance Dance Revolution, BeatMania, air hockey, skeeball, basketball, and classic / modern console games from Nintendo, PlayStation, and Xbox.
The pricing is $10 per hour per person. No quarters, tokens, or cards needed as all games are on free play. We also have an all-day pass for $20 per person.
What sets us apart from other arcades is that we have a touchscreen video jukebox that is also on free play. We try to fill requests for music / videos. We also have a 250-inch video wall and have access to all types of sports, movies, shows, and music videos.
We are proud of all of the games that we have been able to add to our lineup. We work hard to fill requests for games. I’d say we are most proud of the Tsumo motion simulators and have another simulator in the works.
We are a family-friendly arcade. We do not serve alcohol, so all ages are welcome. We hope to bring back fond memories to the older customers while bringing the classic gaming experience to the younger generations. It is the best feeling in the world to see the face of the youth when they come in for the first time.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
We are a family-friendly establishment. Most arcades are now Barcades that serve alcohol, thus excluding people under 18. We believe that this misses a huge part of the community. We both have great memories of going to arcades while we were growing up and want everyone to experience the same.
