Meet Tracy Murdock of Tracy Murdock Interior Design in Beverly Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Murdock.

Tracy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my own Interior Design Company in 2001 after my 2nd marriage ended and I suddenly found myself needing to ‘reinvent’ myself both professionally and personally. I am what you would describe as self-taught, my education learnt through osmosis with valuable experience and knowledge gained by incredible and extraordinary mentors, whom I had privileged access to through my 2 marriages… Having spent 5 years working alongside my ‘mentor’ husband; billionaire entrepreneur David H. Murdock, it was only natural that I would go into Interior Design. While I certainly credit him with introducing me to the world of design through the many projects and homes we built and designed together, in looking back I can see that my inspirations and education really began much much further into the past, it was just ‘defined’ through my work with David.

In those early days, I purchased ‘fixer’ homes, gutted, remodeled and furnished them for sale… I was very successful with this but when I felt the market changing in 2009 I decided to sell the 3 homes I currently owned and was in the process of remodeling and start working ‘with other people’s money’. It was a good thing too, because the market crashed and I got out just in time. This is when I began taking clients and working for them which was quite different than ‘doing my own thing’ with properties I owned. It was very different to execute ‘someone else’s’ vision and I have found great satisfaction bringing client’s visions to reality and have been blessed to have had some great projects and even greater clients to work with.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Tracy Murdock Interior Design – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
What sets me apart from other ‘Design Companies’ is that I design more than just an interior… Not only do we specialize in ‘Turn Key’ services, down to a stocked refrigerator ETC, I design a lifestyle for most and have been known on occasion to also re-do a few of my divorce client’s wardrobes. A new life, fresh beginnings for those coming out of a divorce… A new home, a dream home that many have dreamed of and only seen in magazines, they are willing to let me create this for them. I remember one client in particular, his reaction when he saws his personalized monogrammed sheets! Something he never had or thought to make for himself, never indulged in… his reaction to this was so rewarding.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The natural progression for a designer with my many years of success and experience would be a product line of some sort. I have been in talks on several occasions but have just not found the right fit. When it is meant to be, it will be. Many designer’s want fame, I tend to shy away from cameras, I am too shy for TV and not one to go out and ‘hustle the hustle’. Because of this I have turned down many opportunities. Perhaps I will only be a great as my last project for which I have been very blessed. I love garden design and if I could start all over, I would become an architect. The 3 all interconnect and must be compatible on a successful project. I am looking for that ‘Perfect Project’.
