Today we’d like to introduce you to Tonya Muhammad.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was a 23 years old married mother of two children and I wanted to stay home with my children instead of working at the bank as a teller. I had an amazing daycare provider for my oldest child so I said I can do this too. I December of 1990, I became & licensed Family Daycare Provider. Here I am 30 years later being a sought after provider in my community & I also have become a Consultant to other providers & those desiring to open a daycare.
I am the Owner of Daycare Chronicles 101 which is the name of my Consulting Company which can be found on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube Channel & Tik Tok page which gives a daily chronicle of things that happen in daycare on a daily basis. Daycare Chronicles has gone Global with providers from all over the world seeking consultations from Ms. Tonya. I am the author of “Daycare Chronicles 101 “ tips book & the Daycare Chronicles 101 Podcast is available on Podcast Outlets. I presented a workshop for the CAEYC Annual Conference in June of 2020. I have been happily married to my husband of 11 yrs Marcus Muhammad and we are the proud grandparents of two grandsons…
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I must say that it was one of the easiest things that I have ever done because women are natural nurturers. I have had people in my life that have guided me and helped me along the way. The biggest challenge are the parents not the children. It takes teamwork to rear children and the parent & provider must be in agreement about the needs of the child. I am now a Daycare Consultant and I have written a course on how to start a daycare.

I have been a provider for 30 years and now my grandsons are a part of the daycare. I specialize in infant care however the ages in the daycare range from newborn to age 12. My clients are usually by word of mouth and that’s the best advertisement. I have a waiting list of clients seeking care. I am most proud of be able to prepare the children to go to kindergarten or pre-school. My clients know that their children are learning and being well prepared for success as a scholar. What sets me apart is the quality of care that I provide and my business ethic.
What were you like growing up?
I was the oldest child & the oldest granddaughter. I was born on my grandmother’s birthday so I’ve always been that special child. Lol, I was a very responsible child. I loved to play on our playroom as a little girl. I loved being with my grandmother learning new things like cooking, baking & fashion. I loved being outside. I loved the Holidays because we had a big family. I was the outgoing child & loved a challenge.
