Meet To-Tam & To-Nya Sachika

Today we’d like to introduce you to SACHIKA TWINS,  To-Tam & To-Nya Sachika.

Hi To-Tam & To-Nya, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Thank you for having us. My twin sister and I started our brand SACHIKA over ten years ago in New York City. To-Nya was always the artistic twin, she is the Designer. We decided to join forces and launch our clothing brand where my focus would be business and hers, fashion. Our brand quickly garnered attention and press while dressing prominent public figures and focusing on dressing women of all sizes, shapes and colors. We embrace the female body and design to compliment every body shape. We went on to do New York Fashion Week, LA Fashion Week, Toronto Fashion Week, Midwest Fashion, Viet Fashion Week, Brooklyn Fashion Week. SACHIKA has been featured included but not limited in publications such as Italian VOGUE, Forbes, ELLE Magazine, The Fader, Arise Magazine, Teen Vogue, Daily News, NY Times, Businessweek, Elle Magazine, Obvious Magazine, US Weekly, Fashion Week Daily, Style.com, Elle.com, Reuters, The LA Fashion Magazine, Regard Magazine, Gemma Magazine, etc. SACHIKA was also featured on E! Entertainment, Fox News, Oxygen, BRAVO, Channel 11, TVOne, BET, Vh1, Lifetime, TLC, etc. In 2012, SACHIKA moved its production to Downtown Los Angeles, CA expanding to the west coast. In 2020, during the Covid-19pandemic, we invented the Reveal Clear Face Mask, which became an overnight success and went on to become the most popular 100% clear face mask worldwide. Today, we continue to focus on empowering women and designer dresses and outfits that enable them to feel strong, sexy and independent.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been full of ups and downs but we are grateful for every obstacle that comes our way as they’ve been the best learning curve for us both professionally and personally. We have struggled mainly with production and management. Regarding production, we take a lot of pride in having our garments made in the USA. We had to find the best factories without ever compromising quality knowing that we couldn’t meet the high minimums of quantities when we first started. We are stubborn and believe in ourselves and which comes with challenges, including managing our expenses and overhead. We had to learn to focus on the essentials as it is easy to overspend. I think over the years, we learned to manage that aspect well but it hasn’t always been easy. Also being twins yet business partners, we had to learn to separate business from personal. We got to know each other even more and sometimes had to agree to disagree as well as understand & respect each other’s strong suits.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are the SACHIKA TWINS, identical twin Fashion Designers, based in Los Angeles. We are like the yin & yang of Fashion. One of us focuses on designing dresses & outfits that empower the modern woman, whereas the other twin focuses on our customers as well as the business and marketing aspect of the brand. All our designs are made in USA. We are known to make dresses that are sexy yet sophisticated and incredibly feminine.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Creativity and Confidence. We are creative beings and follow our own gut intuitions when it comes to fashion. We aren’t afraid to stand out and to be different and we believe in our own original designs. Everything we design comes from our own minds and imagination. We also are very strong-minded and are confident in our abilities, talent and visions and dare we say, very resilient women. We hope to continue to inspire more women to pursue their dreams and to start their own businesses!
