Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Jordan-Amoah.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born and raised in Germany.
I remember that I was always somewhat interested in healthy living but never made a direct connection to food being a major contributor. Until I lost one of the most important people in my life to colon cancer, my grandpa Erwin. Let me tell you about the time shortly after he passed…
After school, I decided to leave my home town to explore the US and applied with an Au pair agency. I moved to Connecticut to live with a family and take care of three kids.
This was the first time that I started to notice unusual digestive distress and sudden weight gain. Quickly did I learn that the food in the US was very different from what I had known in Germany. My body was not used to it and therefore my gut responded poorly.
After 18 magical months with the family I had to go back to Germany. My issues got worse every year and I was desperately trying to fix myself. Saw countless specialists who couldn’t pin point the root cause and just told me I was super inflamed on the inside. I became extremely frustrated and hopeless to say the least.
I started learning about the body and about the healing power of food. As a result of the gut issues I also had acne that make me insecure about showing my true self. The issues accompanied me for about 10 years until I was able to heal myself! I used the pain of my grandfather’s loss as fuel to create my purpose.
How?
Well, I move my body regularly (walk, stretch, jump on the trampoline, weight lifting, yoga or cardio), I reduce self created stress to a minimum and breathe deeply throughout the day, I eat lots of greens, vegetarian and gluten free which works well for me and my body type (everybody is different and thrives on different foods), I love and accept myself and I follow my gut feeling. That’s why I called my holistic health coaching business “GUT FEELING LA”.
It’s all about the gut, because that’s where the majority of our immune system sits (microbiome). Thinking with your brain is always a good idea – but listening to your gut never fails.
Thankfully I had followed my life long desire to help other people improve their health. But it needed a very special friend of mine to give me the last push to pursue it. I am so grateful I did and I will continue to learn, grow and coach with great joy!
Has it been a smooth road?
I started coaching in January and still work full time in a corporate job. I didn’t want to struggle financially and stress out about signing clients quickly. I wanted it to develop slowly and take my time. Especially because I enjoy my day job and because I learned from previous life moments where I rushed into things. I had moments where I doubted myself and my abilities. It was definitely not as easy as I thought to run a business.
I focused on areas that turned out to not be as important. And neglected the ones that were. It’s a great journey though and I try to stay focused on helping others. It gives me so much strength.
It’s been going really well so far and I enjoy working with my long term clients. Seeing their results and connecting with them is the most rewarding feeling! And I also excepted the fact that everything on this path happens at the right time.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Gut Feeling LA story. Tell us more about the business.
I have a holistic approach with a great focus on gut health. Many issues can be removed when the gut is balanced. Other than that – my clients are surprised to see that we touch upon every area of their life.
Nutrition, Movement, Finances, Spirituality, Relationships, Career and so much more. They often don’t realize how everything is connected with one another and how easily they can improve each area by just making a few mind shifts. I can help them to remove thinking blocks that kept them from achieving their goals in life. Which automatically ends up in living a much healthier life style. They see results and the results stick, unlike following a certain restrictive diet and then falling back into old habits. Just because we know something is healthy for us, doesn’t mean we are following through. A health coach provides the accountability and curated information you need to succeed!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Within the next 10 years I see that most people will be working with a health coach.
Doctors don’t have the time and often the nutritional knowledge to support their clients to heal. Doctors will be cooperating with coaching to fill these gaps. People will see the value in having a coach who can listen to them and guide them to find their individual healthy mode! The industry is growing quickly.
