Today we’d like to introduce you to Timothy Haug.
Timothy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was kid, I watched the movie “Home Alone” and loved it. I thought to myself that that could be me. It was actually the first time the thought of acting ever crossed my mind.
I grew up in Cloverdale, California, a small town in the wine country. There was the typical high school drama class, but acting for film and television seemed to be almost impossible. It seemed so far out of reach that no one really pursued it. So, I never moved forward with the feeling I got after watching Home Alone.
Fast forward to many years later when I was attending college on a football scholarship. I walked across campus one day. As I was passing by the old Theatre Building, I saw a sign on the door that said, “Open Auditions for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf.” I stopped and stared at it, reading all of the details. I had an almost identical feeling to the one I had after watching Home Alone. I thought to myself that I could it. My friends laughed it off and thought I was joking. They didn’t think I was going to audition, let alone get the part.
But, I did go to the open audition. And, I got the part. That was the beginning of my obsession with acting.
Since moving to Los Angeles, I have been pursuing a career in acting. I have acted in many different projects, including short films, feature films, web series, music videos, and commercials. Some more notable ones from the last couple of years: MasterCard Red Carpet, Too Far Gone, Attack of the Southern Fried Zombies on Amazon Prime, Dillon Francis “Not Butter.”
I am also super excited about my directorial debut. I will be filming a documentary at the end of this year in Brazil. More information will be coming out soon on my social media pages and IMDb.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
“If it were easy, everyone would do it.” …Right?
It’s taken a lot of perseverance and hard work to get to this point, and there’s still a long way to go. It’s a very competitive market, where you’ll find yourself up against thousands of other submissions for the same jobs.
I’ve found myself learning about the whole filmmaking process throughout my career so far. Essentially, every actor should. It’s definitely an advantage. It’s made me venture into producing and writing as well. I produced and wrote my first film last year, Too Far Gone, which is currently making waves on the film festival circuit.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an ACTOR first and foremost.
I am also a PRODUCER and a WRITER.
Art is so subjective. We all have many things to offer to the world. Many different talents, skills, ideas, etc. I guess the only real thing that can set you apart from others is your work ethic and being able to complete something you’ve started. Time and time again, I’ve thrived at those two things. So, like my acting… like my projects… or not… Some people will and some people won’t. All that matters is that it’s seen at the end of the day.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me is being able to make a living from my art (Acting/Filmmaking).
