Meet Tim Summerfield of Pool Guard of LA in Los Angeles County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Summerfield.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started working with Pool Guard about 10 years ago. I had no clue about the industry or what the product was, even though Pool Guard has been around since 1991. I trained as an installer in Orange county and Riverside County for about 6 1/2 to 7 years. From the installation process to the sales process to the overall conception of the pool industry, I got to know firsthand how to make pools safe and give great customer service. Working my way up through the ranks, I have become a general manager for the Los Angeles county area. Not only do I provide safety for other people’s children, I have a Pool Guard fence for my own two daughters. Be in the industry now for over a decade, I realize that all people want is the honestly, communication, and a quality product. These become the cornerstone for our business.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think with any business there’s complications and setbacks. Obviously being a very competitive market is one of the biggest challenges, but knowing how to handle situations that may arise and solving the problem is quickly and efficiently. I think the biggest challenge we face is earning people’s trust because ultimately, we’re preventing their children and pets from drowning.

Another struggle we face is online exposure which is slowly growing in time, however nearly 50% of our business is still word-of-mouth. Nothing that is of value happens overnight. Standing by the statement of “Do what you say and say what you do” will keep the customers coming.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Pool Guard of LA – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
What we do is quite simple: Making pools safe for kids and pets with removable pool safety products. From fences, to safety nets, to safety pool covers, we give families peace of mind with their love ones around the pool. I think the biggest things that we are proud of is our customer service, our quality installation, and our American made products!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
