Meet Trainer Tim Green

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Green.

Tim, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up on a farm in Ohio where running was the best way for me to blow off steam. Soon I was making all my chores into workouts. It was great fun and it was there that I learned to make exercise part of my everyday life. I went to Kent State on the very first scholarship for foster children and while there, took the only job available – monitoring the gym while a few women worked out. I started working out with them, then began to lead them in exercise, then added disco to my moves. It was so much fun! The first week there were five women, the next 20 and it just grew from there. When I left college, my classes – called Get Slim with Tim – were filled with thousands of women! From there I went to Los Angeles and very quickly began working with celebrities. This led to my own gym which I had for 12 years. Now, I do private training but my passion is to empower children through exercise. I’ve created an animated alter ego called Trainer Tim and he is the star of four books that I have done so far with 16 more on the way!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Oh my gosh no! Of course, having a gym in the eighties was both fantastic and heartbreaking; so many friends were affected by or died of AIDS. It was important for me to continue to be a positive influence on all the lives around me as once again I found that exercise was the key to health and happiness.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Trainer Tim story. Tell us more about the business.
I specialize in working one-on-one with all types of people with the intent to increase their activities of daily living. Meaning, that when they go to store their luggage on an airplane, their back won’t go out! I’m most proud of the fact that I opened the very first private gym in LA – Tim Green Health and Fitness — with the winnings from my seven-time national aerobic championships. Recently, I just created my animated alter ego — Trainer Tim – to empower children through exercise. He is the star of four books with more on the way. What sets me apart is that I love, believe and live what I do. It’s the very reason that I’m alive today.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I wouldn’t call any of what has happened to me luck, good or bad. It’s more about the attitude that I take with everything I do — our success is what we have made it or what we can make it. I start every day with a positive meditation that sets the tone for the day and invites in the opportunity that everything is possible through hard work.
