Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas Reiten.
Thomas, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I love God, my wife, the game of golf, and people that do great things in unconventional ways. The “unconventional” has always been my preferred route. My mom put me in piano lessons at an early age. I would come home from piano lessons, throw my sheet music on the floor, put my earbuds in and try to play along with songs on my iPod. Not the best practice in a creative pursuit like piano, but the practice I was best at. In middle school, my Dad inspired me to go for my passion: filmmaking. He put a PowerBook with Final Cut Pro in my hands and told me to “GO”. Just like the piano, I learned how to create in my own way.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There are always challenges. I am an idiot at some things. But, I’m a learning idiot. Shoutout my little brother, Miles. He is one of the smartest people I know and he knows it. But, thank God he is in my corner, rooting me on, being my biggest fan. I love my family so much.
Thomas Reiten – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Search YouTube for “FarmVille, Jay Leno”. I don’t know if the video is still up there. But if it is: ENJOY.
I’ve been working as a video editor for 8 years. I got my start as an assistant editor – working on behind the scenes content for The Hobbit movies, Breaking Bad, Snow White & The Huntsman, and the movie Les Misérables.
I shoot and edit my own videos on the side. Music videos, branded content, etc.
Photography is a recent endeavor. I use instagram to bizdev my photo game and meet new people to work with. I’ve learned a lot of great practices from GaryVee.
I currently work as a video editor at Apple Music x Beats 1.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, success is being proud of the work you do. I have a few friends that are always so stoked on their latest project or creative endeavor. THAT is what it’s all about. That gets me fired up on my own game and makes me want to keep going.
