Meet Thomas Hurst of coLLo Apparel in Orange Country

Today we’d like to introduce you to Thomas Hurst.

Thomas, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I started golfing six years ago, I would come home from a long day in the sun and noticed redness around my neck. The sun damage was noticeable an nd concerning… My inspiration was part health and part vanity. After having a basal cell removal procedure done on my neck, long-term skin health was a pressing priority for me.

I set out to design a shirt that would not only help me but others as well: a 50+ UPF stylish golf shirt with an extra high coLLar. The patented collar sets it apart from all other designs on the market. You may have noticed the two L’s in coLLo and coLLar are in the cap. It’s for fun.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The coLLar! The coLLar was a struggle; we had a tough time mastering it. Getting people to try something new was hard, but once they did they loved it.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the coLLo Apparel story. Tell us more about the business.
We are known for not only the coLLar, but all are polos and headwear are 50UV protection. An added bonus with the polo is its made from 15 water bottles, which makes most of our product eco-friendly. One day I hope we can make the hats eco-friendly as well.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I am not into luck. I’ve learned through the years its hard work that will take you places.
