Today we’d like to introduce you to Thalia Anahi Sanchez.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I have always been on the move since I can remember. Moving school to school, city to city, even out of state. It was fun for a while, but I always craved a home, somewhere where I could plant myself. Art was and always will be an escape for me. It was my universe. I learned about myself through art, how I can create myself and destroy myself and recreate myself again. Moving from so many schools and different parts of the US, helped me grow in so many aspects of my life. Not only in my art but in communicating and understanding people, seeing from different perspectives. I learned how to speak through my art.
I remember clear as day when I chose to become a tattoo artist. My homegirl gave me a tattoo magazine in 9th grade. I found my calling, and I can honestly say I didn’t take high school seriously after that. When teachers would ask me what I wanted to be in my career, I always said Tattoo Artist ! so confident. I always remember their faces were so concerned, shocked, or they didn’t want to take me seriously. I didn’t let their vibe discourage me. It didn’t change my mind or make me doubt myself. I knew what I wanted to be, and I sharpened my skills each year in high school. Right after high school, my mom showed me my first tattoo shop where I started my apprenticeship.
I moved to many shops. l learned what I wanted to be and didn’t want to be; I adapted quickly and evolved. Six years later, I have my private studio, working on my brand La Bella Vida Ink soon to be a new tattoo shop opening in The Valley. I fell in love with painting on my journey. I can fully express myself in many ways, where I am vulnerable and speak my truth. I love the connection I have with the people who support and love my paintings. Each piece I paint, I pour my heart into it, as well as my energy.
There are three people that I admire and look up to in this world. My mom, who showed me to do things with love, and appreciate everything /everyone in my life. My dad, who taught me how to hustle, to keep going and growing every day. Adonis, the love of my life, may your Rest In Peace, you showed me to believe in myself, and you are the reason I am who I am today. MAKING MY MARK EVERYWHERE I GO.
Please tell us about your art.
I am a tattoo artist who loves to paint and travel the world. Without the support of my peoples, I wouldn’t be here. I am grateful and appreciate all the constant love, trust, and support I receive daily from everyone who supports my art. Confidence is what people radiant once I finish there tattoo. I love to see how good they feel when I finish tattooing, whether it is a cover-up, a sleeve or a tiny tattoo. Every person is a walking book to me, hearing their experiences or just vibing makes me understand and connect with them even more. Having that connection with the person helps me create a meaningful design to decorate there bodies. I learn from everyone who I cross paths with; I admire them for becoming one with me. Tattooing is a ritual, where I prepare my mental state before tattooing, making sure I am at peace. Tattoos is a way to express yourself. I am always inspired by seeing how everyone is creative and imaginative in different ways.
YOU ARE ART: If I’m not tattooing, I’m painting to keep my creative juices flowing. Painting is my true passion what I can’t express through words my paintings say it all. I listen to my self becoming lost in the creation and in my spirit, its the best way I can express myself and let my emotions run wild and free, capturing my feelings onto my paintings. It is my escape where times stops, and I get lost in my world. Painting is very personal to me. I speak my truth by putting my mind, heart and soul into every painting.
SPREADING LOVE THROUGH MY ART: I always create with any media I can get my hands on from oil, acrylics, spray cans, marker, pens, etc. I found myself oil painting more on wood, something about the smooth surface, and having a piece of nature and putting my art own it. I found it fascinating. Bedazzling my painting, adding a 3D effect adding jewelry, crystals, glitter, pearls, flowers, etc. finishing it off with resin to seal the painting. I enjoy painting women, embracing my feminist energy, my inner goddess warrior. I feel my paintings give off mystical vibes. I am very in tune with myself spiritually, physically, and mentally. I know what vibe or message I’m putting out on my art. I found my style by painting what I love. I AM CREATING MAGIC.
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
Always invest in yourself is the best advice I can give for all the artists out here with financial concerns. Be your cheerleader, your #1 fan, Hype yourself up when you are pushing yourself through those hard days by creating consistently. Use your art as an escape and yes, have breaks for yourself when you need it. Remember to sharpen your skills. Keep the focus on your path, and yours alone, everyone’s journey is different. Remind yourself of the reason you started to create and chose the artistic path. Money comes and goes, but the experiences we go through, we can learn from them. Money should never be your priority but the freedom that comes along with creating what you feel, like, and enjoy. MONEY IS JUST A TOOL.
