Today we’d like to introduce you to Terry Ware, Sr.
Hi Terry, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In High School, I absolutely hated English, not sure why exactly, but I definitely didn’t like it…lol Upon graduating High School, I worked for a few years and attended a small community college. Feeling unsatisfied, I decided to enlist in the United States Air Force. I never dreamed I would enlist, in fact upon graduating High School I was offered a full scholarship to attend my favorite College, The University of Miami. However, it was a ROTC scholarship and as I stated I had no plans of enlisting. Little did I know that three years after High School, I would enlist in the Air Force. There I served four years and eight months before I decided to move on to something different. Let me go back a bit. Before I enlisted, I began writing poetry, something I had a hard time doing while I was in school. However, one day I found myself sitting at my desk at work while I was working for Publix and I began to think about my Uncle who was locked up on Death Row. I imagined being in his shoes locked away knowing you may never see the light of day and I just began to write. It was there I wrote my first poem titled “On Death Row”. After that day, poetry became second nature to me.
Fast forward, while in the military I would write all the time and share with those I worked with and close friends. They would all ask the same question, ‘Have you ever thought about writing a book”? Of course, my answer was “no” I never imagined me being a publisher let alone did I know anything about publishing a book. Well after I left the military, I continued writing and eight years after I left the military, 2013, I published my very first book, “Loves Recipe”. After publishing my first book and receiving my copies in the mail, I this unexplainable feeling and I prayed to God that He makes a way that I could help others feel that exact feeling I felt. Well sometime later, He gave me the idea, “PoEtIc XpReSsIoNs”. I had no idea what it meant but I began to put a group of people together and we began to write. While I was putting the book together, I noticed that everything we had wrote about dealt with some type of Mental Illness. So the first volume was titled, “PoEtIc XpReSsIoNs, Volume 1- Mental Health Variations”. The mission of this book project is to help bring awareness to different types of Mental Illnesses through Poetry as well to encourage those who are not published to publish a book of their own. All proceeds from each book goes to the NAMI foundation to help in bringing awareness for Mental Health. I am currently on the 3rd Volume which will be released February 2021. So after God gave me that Vision, I still felt there was more, so I prayed for direction. I was asked by someone did I ever think about starting my own publishing company, of course I did not, I mean I went through a dynamic publisher for my first two books, never thought about trying to start my own company…lol
However, while riding one day, I heard God speak BOSS in my spirit, then he said take this word home and give t to your wife and she will come up with the meaning. So I followed instructions and we came up with Building Opportunities Stirring Success-B.O.S.S., and our very own Publishing company was formed. We have currently revamped the company to include a couple of DBAs (Doing Business As). The company is now B.O.S.S. & Company, LLC; DBA-B.O.S.S. Publishing, B.O.S.S. Clothing & Apparel, and B.O.S.S. Productions. If that wasn’t enough, I decided to try my hand at acting. Yes, you guessed it, something I never saw myself doing or even believed I would be good at it…lol I was offered a role in a Stage Play in 2015, really just an extra that turned into doing a little more than that. Then sometime later, I was offered another position, this time as one of the lead roles. Uncertain, I said yes, and I’ve been acting ever since, mostly stage plays but I’m definitely looking to get Into film very soon. My life in a nutshell, “Even when you think it’s unthinkable, God says think the Unthinkable!’
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been smooth at all. There were and still are bumps in the road from time to time. While in the military, I face a few situations where I was accused of doing things that were not true. With the book project, PoEtIc XpReSsIoNs, there is not a lot of support which can be very frustrating because it is for such a great purpose and I personally do not make any money from this project. With the company, B.O.S.S., we know it stands for a great purpose, however, it has yet to take off as we know it eventually will. With Acting, I know it’s about making the right connections, so I’m remaining patient knowing that there’s a BIG role right around the corner.. 🙂
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a publisher, I understand the frustrations that can come with the process. What I love to do is to take away those frustrations by working with you to create not only a great presentation of your work but as well, a professional look of your work. I do this through Editing and Formatting and I am currently learning to create book covers. I am known for the professionalism that I value when working with a client, from being honest with them to making sure I always have Integrity throughout the entire process. What I am most proud of is what we are doing now which is helping others to become Self-Published Authors where they make 100% of their royalties. My most proudest moment was helping my mother recently become a Self-Published Author… What I know sets me apart from others is that I do what I do not to get rich, but I love seeing the smile on someone’s face once they see their work in print, especially for those that accomplish that feat for the very first time. It’s an unexplainable feeling that I get that makes everything that I do worthwhile.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
