Thanks for sharing your story with us Terri. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
At 54, both of my daughters were grown and out of the house. I had been a stay at home mom and now found myself wondering what to do with the 2nd chapter of my life. I was always fascinated by pregnancy and babies and I heard about a new technology called 3d Ultrasound. My daughter was pregnant at the time with my first grandchild and we went to a place in San Diego that had just opened to check it out. It was an amazing experience to see what a baby looks like in the womb and I was captivated. With the next few months I went to Austin Texas to get training in this field and came back and opened my business, Before the Stork. To say it was taking a huge risk and highly unlike my personality, all I can say is, when you find your passion….Go for it!!
Twelve years later and this technology and become far more common and popular and I am still getting to do something I love! I get to share in a very special experience with families coming to see their unborn baby’s face and what they will look like. It is truly a magical moment that I get to be a part of.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting out in 2005 there were only 2 other facilities in Orange County offering this technology. As it became more popular in the last five years, there are now about 75 places with a 50 mile range of us. Unfortunately that brings a challenge as we all are competing with each other for our clients. Because we have been around so long, luckily we have about 30% of our business come from referrals or returning clients.
Please tell us about Before the Stork 4d Ultrasound.
Before the Stork is a 3d/4d Ultrasound facility. Our customer service is what stands us apart from our competitors because we will do whatever we need to make our clients happy. I believe that because we are family owned and operated that has made a huge difference in our brand. We have a 5 star rating on Yelp and it is very important when clients are considering us that they see what makes us stand apart from the completion. I am most proud of the fact that both of my daughters have been involved with me in this business and I have been able to ultrasound all six of my grandchildren!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Being an only child was sometimes very lonely. One of my favorite memories from childhood was going over to my cousin house and sitting outside eating avocado’s fresh from their trees with them.
