Today we’d like to introduce you to Terri Ross.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Terri. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Growing up I always wanted to be a doctor, I loved the idea of helping people. I worked at a hospital after high school through college and was exposed to several different departments, in addition I worked closely with interns, fellows and physicians in several different therapeutic areas. I attended Wayne State University, pre-med and realized while I loved medicine, I loved the business of it equally as much which was fitting for my personality.
After college I immediately was offered a position as a sales representative with Indigo Medical a division of Johnson and Johnson working in the operating room selling equipment to treat malignant melanoma and brain tumors. Talk about intense training, it was like being in medical school but so rewarding help people survive through these medical procedures.
This began my career in medical sales where I’ve spent over 20 years working in and leading up to a Director level position managing teams and revenue of upwards of $20M dollars and ranking in the top of my division. My father passed away when I was 40 years old and up to that point I was so driven and dedicated to my work that I couldn’t see what else I may be missing. I had a baby at 41 yrs. old after 2 rounds of fertility and decided that there was more or asking myself “why can’t I have it all, a family and a successful career”.
I started Terri Ross Consulting in 2011, working with leading Plastic Surgery, Dermatology and Medical Spa practices to help them run more efficiently and to make them more profitable. This only came after working in the corporate sector as a Sales Director for Medicis and Zeltiq, launching Coolscultping in the US and Canada, the first non-surgical procedure to remove fat permanently. Working in the aesthetics field and corporate sector gave me with knowledge, skill, and expertise to elevate medical practices to reach financial growth practices have never seen. Let’s be honest, Doctors don’t go to business school.
I worked for several high profile physicians in Beverly Hills and quickly made a name for myself. In 2013 I was asked to be a business consultant for Lasky Aesthetics in Beverly Hills, a medical spa owned by 4 doctors, 2 Facial Plastic Surgeons a Dermatologist and a Plastic Surgeon. They started this grass roots business to refer their clients too, however with no internal business infrastructure. I quickly wrote a business plan, and outlined my recommendations of what it could take to turn this underperforming business around.
Don’t get me wrong, I had never run a medical practice, but I was determined, passionate and resourceful and had enough knowledge to take on this project. In 2014 Lasky was generating $500K, with 2 employees and no infrastructure. Now, in 2018 Lasky has grown from 2 employees to 9, we’ve doubled in space, the debt is paid off and we are generating over $3M dollars. This did not come easy, especially because I had a new born baby girl at home, but failure or mediocrity was not an option for me. With perseverance and hard work comes reward and that of which I am very grateful for.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing worth it is ever smooth, I had a new born, and I had to learn the internal business workings of a practice and had to re-vamp a business as a startup. I had to take risks to invest money, on staff, marketing and operations, money that was from the owners with the hopes that my plan would result in growth and profitability. Luckily it did. Which I am very proud of. It took a team not just me.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Terri Ross Consulting, LLC – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Terri Ross Consulting is a business consulting firm that optimizes revenues and business performance. I help evaluate medical practices processes, including but not limited to operating efficiencies, staff skill, sales training, customer service, and growth strategies. What sets me apart is that I have both the corporate business and sales background in addition to working within a medical practice. I understand all aspects of the internal and external requirements to be successful.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am fortunate to have wonderful relationships both personally and professionally with opportunities that may lend to a book deal and perhaps a podcast to help others thrive. My priority is being the best mother I can and showing her what a strong woman looks like. You can have it all.
