Meet Teri Ryan-DeVore of Clementine Floral Works in Hollywood Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teri Ryan-DeVore.

Teri, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started as a studio florist in 1991 for a company called Studio Stems. We only did set flowers for Movie and Television shows, eventually I became part owner and we did flowers for hundreds of sets in the studios around L.A. We sold the company in 2005 and I started freelancing around town and ended up at R. Jack Balthazar where I was their lead designer for five years.

Then in 2012, I started Clementine at Sunset Junction with my then boyfriend (now husband Cain DeVore.) Soon after that Sharon Lowe of Floracopia joined us and here we are today. We aren’t in the Sunset Junction anymore in 2016 I was diagnosed with breast cancer and we had to ease back on the workload. The good news is today I am doing great! I caught it early and took a lot of precautions. Today we work out of a private studio in the Hollywood Hills. We do everyday deliveries and Events and private homes as well as television shows, movies and commercials.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Pursuing your passion is probably hardest because its you. Its emotional and personal and that sometimes is hard to balance with the business side of things.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We love flowers! We never stop loving them. The fact that we can get up everyday and make beautiful things for so many different occasions we are forever grateful. People order flowers for the whole scale of emotional reasons and we put those emotions into our flowers. We are more artists than traditional florists although we can certainly do any style of arrangement we shine the best when we just get to feel our way through, we basically stay out of the way of the flowers and they always show us where to go.

What were you like growing up?
Tomboy/Horse girl. I was crazy about animals and being outside. I grew up in Oregon so I was outside constantly even in the pouring rain.
