Today we’d like to introduce you to Temeka Zore.
Temeka, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in Indiana, which is where I completed my medical school and residency training. My first clinical rotation of medical school was OBGYN and I had an immediate draw to the field. I loved being in women’s health, as well as the mix of surgery and clinic that the specialty entailed. It wasn’t until I got to residency that I realized my passion for reproductive endocrinology and infertility and knew that was the field of medicine I wanted to pursue.
As I got ready to apply for fellowship, my husband and I always had a desire to move to California and get away from the freezing winters! When I matched at UCLA for fellowship we were thrilled! We have really enjoyed the past three years living in Southern California and appreciate having the sunny weather and the beaches available to us year-round. Upon finishing my fellowship, we realized we wanted to continue to enjoy the California life and decided to stay for good.
As I continue in my reproductive endocrinology and infertility career, my passion for the work has only grown. I am dedicated to providing quality care to everyone who comes to see me and my goal is simple: to educate and empower women regarding their reproductive health. This field of medicine has a really special mix combining the “art” of medicine with the cutting-edge science that has propelled the field forward significantly in the past 5-10 years. I’m so honored to say that RMA, where I practice, has been a driving force behind these scientific advancements.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Medicine is never a smooth road! The road to becoming a physician is long and takes a lot of diligence, discipline and sacrifice. Along the way are countless exams, board certifications and sleepless nights in the hospital. Additionally, moving around every 3-4 years for college, medical school, residency and fellowship definitely takes some flexibility and adjustment. However, being able to care for patients as they attempt to build or preserve their ability to build their family for the future is such a privilege and passion of mine – it’s worth it.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Reproductive Medicine Associates of Southern California – what should we know?
RMA is a global pioneer in fertility science, having helped bring more than 40,000 babies to loving families since its inception in 1999. Founded with the mission to conduct vital research that could improve patient outcomes and success, RMA is the single-biggest investor in fertility research in the U.S. and has published landmark papers that have literally transformed the industry for the better. In addition to all the research and the science, our doctors pride themselves on compassionate patient care and always put the patient first. No exceptions.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think what will set me and RMA Southern California apart is being compassionate and understanding of the journey our patients have been on before even walking through our door. Many patients are so stressed by the time they seek fertility treatment that I feel it is my goal to relieve some of that stress by being a sympathetic ear for them. I strive to make my patients feel like they are talking to a friend when they share their history and to provide individual medical plans that will work best for each person or couple. To me that is the “art” of medicine. My passion for reproductive health combined with our caring and supportive staff and cutting-edge science and research makes receiving care at RMA a very unique – and successful – experience.
