Today we’d like to introduce you to Telishia Berry.
Telishia Berry started writing at a young age, from poetry to songs for her all-girl singing group to musical stage plays. She decided to write her first novel in order to have the characters do exactly what she wanted as opposed to actors in the plays! She was always fascinated with magazines and worked with a few local publications.
After a divorce, Telishia needed motivation and inspiration, she decided that inspiring other women would be her motivation and started Courageous Woman Blog. After it gained some popularity she decided to turn it into a magazine and started the print publication in Michigan with the $30 she had in her bank account and distributed 4,000 copies of the first issue. Today, she publishes the magazine online and is looking forward to a Los Angeles launch. She also publishes books and has four books to her credits.
Telishia Berry is a book publisher, speaker, playwright, author, radio host and publisher of Courageous Woman Magazine, an award-winning, inspirational publication that highlights the accomplishments of extraordinary women. Cover stories have included notable entertainers including actress Vanessa Bell Calloway, music icon Jody Watley, gospel recording artist, Vickie Winans, Vivica Fox, Oleta Adams and many more. The magazine is available online and in print. Telishia Berry’s most recently published anthologies are Amazon #1 Bestselling books, including The Making of a Successful Business Woman which includes 20 co-authors and Girl, Get Up and Win includes 41 co-authors. She is the author of the novel, The Baptist Junkie, a bestselling Christian fiction drama about faith, family, and redemption. She also published the book, What is a Courageous Woman, an anthology with 78 authors. Telishia has several more books to be released in 2020 including her personal story, Girl, Get Yourself Together: How to Be Mentally, Physically, and Spiritually Better, and several anthologies including, I Am My Sister’s Keeper.
As a playwright, Telishia has numerous stage productions to her credit including gospel musical plays “Wake Up, “Wake Up 2” and a comedy musical, “Hair Weave.” A list of amazing actors and vocalists included actor Carl Payne Jr, Gospel singer Deitrick Haddon, R & B legend, the late Ron Banks of the dramatics, Comedians, Foolish and Mike Epps.
Telishia’s most prized role is being a mother of 4, one son Kendre’ Berry who is an actor and singer, most known for his roles as Jabari on the hit TV show, “Girlfriends”, Durrell on HBO’s “Six Feet Under.” Three daughters, Tisha Brenee’, a film director and photographer, Toi Dove’, fashion model, and Kennedy, a college student.
Has it been a smooth road?
Operating a business, especially a magazine certainly has not been a smooth ride. Like any business, it has challenges and ups’s and downs. I think having adequate funding and the right team members make a huge difference.
