Today we’d like to introduce you to Teddy Martin.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Teddy. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m originally from Columbus, Ohio I moved out to L.A. in 2012. I was only here for a year. I found out my father whom I had only met nine months prior had passed away from a heart attack. When I went back to Ohio, I also found out my mother was diagnosed with fibromyalgia on top of losing nine other family members within the six years of me being back in Columbus. I came back to L.A. about two years ago to continue what I had started here in 2012. I’m a performing pop and hip hop artist. I began dancing at the age of ten and, about five years ago, I started writing music. I decided to infuse the two. I’ve had some great opportunities from performing at the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame” in Cleveland, Ohio from rocking the “Peach State Fair” in Atlanta, Georgia to performing at the “Viper Room” twice.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road, losing people you love year after year, my mom being sick and losing my dad was a lot to process. I’m still processing it sometimes I want to pick up the phone and call my grandma but I can’t. Being out here in the beginning was very rough because I didn’t have a strong support system like I do now. I was sleeping on couches, my car, Air B&Bs I didn’t feel stable but I knew things would turn around.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I song write and I perform and, recently I’ve become a host on the HOTWORDZ LYRICAL THEATRE on Accelerated Radio. I think I was most proud is when I had the opportunity to perform at the “Viper Room” for the second time. I was like yea dude you were meant for this.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I think it’s really believing in yourself and your brand because if you don’t believe in either then others won’t. Success is also what we want it to be. We all have different dreams and aspirations but you gotta ask yourself how hard are you willing to work for it. We can say all day and all night we want this, we want that but not everyone wants to work hard to achieve the success they want. I believe good old fashion hard work is a huge key into success don’t expect it to happen overnight, but if you’re persistent then all that work will pay off.
