Today we’d like to introduce you to Tc Starski.
Hi Tc, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m from Shreveport, Louisiana. I received my Master’s of Science in Sport Management from Louisiana State University. Although I love sports, Louisiana’s rich history in music culture is what captivated me early on. I’ve had a fascination with music for as long as I can remember. My dad was a DJ. My uncle was a guitarist. My grandfather, grandmother, and aunt were all vocalists. Ultimately, that exposure to music transitioned me into a rapper and multi-instrumentalist. It was always in me, but it took much adversity for me to break out of my shell and display my talent. It was enough to realize that there’s worse issues in the world than being accepted for your art. Those tough times made me resilient. Resiliency is what molded my sound into what I call “self-esteem-rap”.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No. It hasn’t been a smooth road at all. Being heard was a test in itself. That’s the reason that I titled my brand Unheard Compositions. It’s one challenge to make a great body of work. Then there’s getting people to listen. Balancing a life of family, career, education, and mastering instrumentation comes with its setbacks. In addition, my team backed out on me at the beginning of the recording process of my debut album. I had to dig deep and ask myself how bad I wanted it. My efforts resulted in me producing, composing, and writing the entire project. I’ve learned over the years that nothing is as bad as it seems in our minds. Although Unheard Compositions is still emerging, I’m excited about the opportunities that my music continues to invite.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Early on in my career, my focal point was producing, composing, and writing for artists. Then my desire grew to take all of those elements, and create a body of work that’s more personal to me. My debut album Cosmic Battle was created. It’s a mixture of hip hop, lofi, and alternative rock. I’m most proud of having a healthy balance of art and family. What separates me is my versatility, musical ear, and collection of experiences as a black man from the south.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
More successful-independent-artist. New innovative ways to compensate from music.
