Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Steers.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Taylor. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
One of my greatest life long friends “Corbin” and I decided to start a mobile beverage catering company. We bought an old 1952 Chevy Panel in Long Beach off of craigslist and restored the whole vehicle in the driveway of our house. We drilled five holes on the passenger side of the vehicle, just large enough to put a faucet through and installed a draft system into the back of the truck.
My sister designed our logo, we reached out to all of our connections within the catering industry, and we started to book out our new but vintage beer truck. Our company Tap Truck started in San Diego, CA. and now we are in 10 cities within California. It’s been two years thus far working countless hours marketing our brand, running public beer gardens, getting patrons tipsy at weddings, and of course throwing backyard parties.
But we have been meeting the right people who love our concept and other than Tap Trucks across California, we are now in five other states as well and continuously growing! It’s been a dream come true, Corbin and I are on top of the world doing what we love and have built from the ground up. Nothin’ beats a cold one from our Tap Truck.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been smooth, but of course, there are some potholes along the way. The biggest struggle we have had is finding these vintage panel trucks in relatively decent condition to convert into our beer trucks.
The trucks we use are almost 70 years old so to find a working panel in good body condition is somewhat few and far between. We build out our beer trucks to send across the country, and for us, we can’t get enough trucks to go around. The saying “they don’t make them like they used too” we have found is definitely true.
Tap Truck – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Other than my business partner Corbin, I am the founder of Tap Truck. My current role in our company is to run the local catering side of the business here in San Diego. That includes local marketing, sales, event management, and of course the big one – public relations! I take pride in Tap Truck, and I want others to see that along with my enthusiasm. I look to meet everyone in the industry, so they know me, and they know Tap Truck. Other then that, I run the franchisee relations for our ever-growing brand. I look to educate our Tap Truck branches on everything I have learned from my experience within the San Diego market.
Tap Truck is set apart from other beverage catering companies because we have implemented vintage panel trucks to do all of our pouring of beverages. This classic look brings nostalgic feelings to our clients. When they see a panel truck, their father could have drove them to school growing up, and know they see it pouring up their favorite craft beer or mixed cocktail it seals the deal and nothing can beat it. The feeling of home, comfort, and of course the surprise of an old truck pouring drinks is what without a doubt sets us apart.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Quitting my job, building a beer truck in my driveway, and becoming a business owner. Can’t beat it.
