Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Salisbury.
Taylor, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story is pretty simple. I was born and raised here in Lake Forest, Ca. I am the youngest of 3 brothers. I graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Finance and an emphasis in personal financial planning from California State University at Fullerton. I worked two jobs for most of college until I started working in an administrative role at Stratos Wealth Partners my sophomore/junior year in college. I was able to grow with the team here in Irvine. I started part-time under 1 adviser and eventually became a full time working for 2 adviser’s and running the office.
During my time I received all of my securities licenses and completed all of the courses to qualify to sit for Certified Financial Planner exam. I passed that exam shortly after graduating. Not soon after passing my CFP exam I was brought on as a partner. I have been a partner for just over two years and currently manage over 24 million dollars. A primary focus of our team is working with Southern California Edison Employees. I am surrounded by incredible partners and team members and couldn’t be where I am today without them.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have had some of the best people mentor me along the way so I think my road has definitely been smoother than most. That being said this career is not an easy one. It was a long and grueling process to build up a business. It takes a lot of persistence and you have to be really comfortable with taking rejection because it happens a lot.
Making phone calls day in and out, going on meetings, driving a lot of miles, and having no guarantee that what you are doing is going to bare any fruit can be a difficult thing to work through. Furthermore, being a young financial advisor if tough because the first thing people see when they meet you is how young you are, which doesn’t inspire a lot of trust off the bat. There are definitely ways to overcome that but it does take time.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Stratos Wealth Partners story. Tell us more about the business.
At our firm, we have the client—and only the client—in mind. Our mission is to get to know and understand client needs, wants, and long-term goals. We want to help clients develop, implement, and monitor a strategy that’s designed to address their individual situation.
From managing debt to saving for college to retirement we want to be the people that clients come to get advice.
At the end of the day we built our businesses from nothing, so each one of us really takes the time to make sure we are doing everything we possibly can to take care of our clients. We do have some younger members of the team which is a huge benefit because that drives everyone toward new technology that either makes us run more efficient or add additional services to clients.
I love our team because everyone is looking out for everyone else. Too often you hear horror stories about jobs in finance being rough and cold. I have never experienced that in our office or in any Stratos office. From the CEO to the intern’s everyone’s opinion is taken seriously and that was one of the biggest reasons I always wanted to stay with the firm.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I am a really lucky person (ironically that question was asked to me in my first interview in Finance and I use it in interviews to this day) so I feel luck has played a huge roll in my life. I was lucky to have parents that had the means to give me everything I needed growing up.
I am lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful parts of the world. I was lucky to have one great mentor after another. I was lucky to get the opportunity to work for this company and grow with this team. I am lucky to this day to be surrounded by all kinds of amazing people. I have worked hard my whole life for the things I have but I am not naive enough to believe it was all me.
