Meet Taylor Morgan and Brennan Clarke of Amborella Organics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Morgan and Brennan Clarke.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I studied literature and journalism in college and my senior year worked for NYLON Magazine. Following graduation, I continued to freelance- mostly about music- until assuming a staff position at Garden Collage Magazine. Here I worked on everything that was connected to plants and flowers. During this time Brennan, co-founder of Amborella Organics, and I were bouncing around from California to Japan to Florida- for months at a time. He was working for a company that had big medical contracts, installing inventory systems for naval bases. It was on one of these trips that we discussed a daydream that Brennan had years ago, while in his garden, of a lollipop that you could eat and a stick that could grow a plant.

Please tell us about your art.
Brennan grew up gardening with his grandma and each summer growing tomatoes was a constant for them. The day that he was daydreaming about a seed-bearing lollipop, he was watering his tomatoes and thinking about how special gardening with his grandma was, how important it is for future generations to have this experience with each other and with nature, and wondering if a lollipop could be a vehicle for this experience. When we began to take steps to bring this idea to life, the want for creating an experience was at the forefront. Of course, it needed to be delicious so that people could equally enjoy consuming it, but we wanted there to be intentionality behind each flavor. In all of our flavors, you can see an edible herb or flower in your candy and this is usually what you’ll go on to grow. Peach & Marigold, for example, grow marigold while our newest reveal Green Apple & Chamomile grow chamomile.

We inserted many of our core values into the company like quality ingredients- organic, non-GMO, artificial dye-free, etc.- and sustainability. This wasn’t because of marketing or trend forecasting, it was because this is who we aim to be in our daily lives. It’s been our greatest honor to watch this idea resonate with people all over the world.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
We didn’t launch our business in the most conventional way. We didn’t raise capital, or think about how much money we had in our savings to live, we just knew we wanted to give this our all because we believed in the vision. I think that’s the most important part of any business, being so clear about what you want to create and why. Today we experience daily victories right alongside something that can feel like a major loss. What keeps us moving forward is that vision.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
Our seed-bearing lollipops are available on our website and with retailers across the country, ranging from small coffee shops to botanical gardens + museums, to Urban Outfitters. We’re available with UO in Canada, slated to launch with a large retailers in the UK soon, and excited to continue expanding while we offer people a variety of ways to consume and interact with plants.
