Meet Taylor Kinzie of Taylor Kinzie Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Kinzie.

Taylor, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My journey into photography began in the midst of my career as a casting director. I was extremely unhappy in my career at the time and was looking for another form of creative expression. I never thought that when I purchased my first DLSR (a Nikon D200) that it would lead to an entire career change and I would become a full-time wedding photographer.

I started off modestly by asking my friends and family to let me photograph them. After their photos posted on Facebook, I started to receive inquiries for paid jobs. I charged $75 for my first session and was so excited to have a real client. My client base quickly started to build from there and within a year I was able to leave my job as a casting director to pursue photography full time.

Since beginning my career as a full-time wedding photographer I have been fortunate enough to travel internationally for weddings. My camera has taken me on countless adventures and allowed me to connect with people in beautiful ways.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Becoming a photographer has led to a series of self-discoveries and a lot of personal growth. When I started my business I had every intention of making a career out of “taking pretty pictures” and being creative all the time. Little did I know that owning your own business is so much more than taking pretty pictures. I quickly learned I would have to wear many hats if I wanted to succeed.

I taught myself the basics of marketing, web design, blogging, accounting, bookkeeping, and branding. In addition to all of this, I had to make sure I was continuing to grow in my craft and evolving as an artist. Ultimately, I’d say my biggest challenge was learning to think more like an entrepreneur and less like an artist.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Taylor Kinzie Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
Taylor Kinzie Photography is a boutique photography studio specializing in wedding and lifestyle photography. I use natural light to paint images that are luminous and joyful. My work can be described as crisp, classic, and bright. My goal for every image is to capture human connection through love. I believe photographs should tell a story, therefore, I always try to connect with my clients. This helps me to tell their story from the perspective of my lens in a genuine and authentic way.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I like to believe that luck is when preparation meets opportunity. I’ve worked tirelessly to make my passion into my career and have tried to be ready whenever awesome opportunities have come my way. I’ve learned that intuition has also played a big role in my success.

I’ve learned to listen to my inner voice when a business decision doesn’t feel right or when I know I need to hustle more. Constantly setting goals for myself has also been a huge factor in my success. It’s important to have something to strive towards always.
