Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Character.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always had a love for music. I remember when I was in middle school and I begged my mother to buy me this portable studio so I could record my beats and put my poetry on top of the songs to try and make a rap song. I loved everything about it, from producing, creating beats but I knew rapping wasn’t going to be my lane. Fast forward to 2018, my love for music still thrived through me but I didn’t know how I could make my way into the industry. One day, my friends and I were at this cookout and the person who owned the house had a whole DJ set, set up in their house. I was always interested in DJing just never really did anything with the thought.
Anyways, I hopped on their DJ tables and my friends were like, “you are so good, you should really think about DJing.” Mind you, I’ve never DJ’d in my life til now, but I brushed off what my friends said and just went on my merry way. My friends weren’t playing when they said that I should DJ, cause they made sure to tell me every time I was with them that I should. Shout out to Rayna and Monnie! So I gave in and I bought myself my first tables and taught myself how to DJ efficiently enough, to the point I was comfortable to DJ a party. Then the rest is history. I have been blessed to DJ at Dash Radio with celebrity trainer Corey Calliet. I have done brunch parties, comedy shows and the list will continue to grow.
Has it been a smooth road?
Overall, it has been a pretty smooth road. I feel like the only struggle that I’m dealing with now is being able to have gigs consistently. I would love to have gigs every day of the week and weekend but I’m currently in the military so I’m limited to the weekends.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
So I am a DJ, I do radio shows, artist showcases, private events (weddings, birthday parties, etc.). I’m most proud of all the quick success I’ve had with it. I’ve only been Djing since last June, so it hasn’t even been a year yet and the support and love that has been giving to me is such an amazing feeling. I feel what sets me apart from others is that, I’m diverse when it comes to music. You have DJ’s that only play one genre and that’s all they know, as for me I am familiar with a lot of different genres of music, so it allows for a lot more opportunities for me.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I feel Like LA is the city of opportunities. It’s perfect for my field of work because the record companies are here, artist lives here, there is always an event going on that always needs some good music. I would recommend them to start here, only because this place is literally a jungle. If you are serious about your craft, your business, LA is going to show you if you really are ready or if the lane you are pursuing isn’t for you. It will really test your work ethic and how bad you want and love what you are doing.
