Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Belle.
Taylor, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
For as long as I can remember, music was everything to me. Singing was my first love. In third grade, I performed in my school talent show and from that moment on I knew I was meant to be on a stage. From there, I would sing every day and when I was 11, I had my first studio session. The rush of excitement and passion being in the studio learning how to record and harmonize was amazing. I started recording covers and performing with oldies groups in my early teens which led to me doing some small teen tours and shows in New York, where I grew up, all through middle school and high school. I also had my first taste of California in my junior year of high school when I came here to record a few songs. After high school, I moved to NYC and recorded and released my first few singles. There was so much inspiration around me at all times and I really came into my own as an artist and young woman. I knew my heart was set on making my way to the West Coast though and was blessed to be here a lot for music throughout 2019. I came to LA for writing sessions, meetings, and got to open up for T-Pain last April at the Observatory. Following the trip, I started plotting and manifested that goal when I moved here last October. Since moving I have met so many beautiful people that have joined my journey. The energy here is unmatched.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been struggles along the way, all of which I’m super grateful for because they’ve thickened my skin and taught me a lot about myself. Personally, I faced a lot of challenges growing up in a tough family situation, but luckily music was my light through all of it. It was always an outlet for me to express the emotions I was dealing with and provided an escape. When I felt alone, I didn’t really feel alone because I had this dream with me that was always there to remind me of where I was headed. Outside of that, I think I’ve worked through challenges that a lot of women in music unfortunately deal with. It can be hard to assert yourself as a woman in such a male-dominated industry, especially at such a young age where people find you to be more easily taken advantage of. I’ve had to turn down a lot of opportunities because they felt unsafe or like there were expectations attached. The beautiful thing though is every no brings the potential for new yes’! The more you stand your ground and know your worth, the more people that also see your worth come in. I refuse to settle, which you can definitely hear in my lyrics.
Ladies in music.. remember this!! Never let a man or anyone for that matter tell you what your worth is. It’s all within you.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
Mainly I am a singer and songwriter. I write all of my own lyrics and have also been a part of some amazing records with friends and other artists. I love crafting melodies and lyrics that create a feeling; That can bring you into an entirely new place, give perspective, give confidence. I make music for people to relate to and be inspired by. My favorite part of making a song would probably be creating the harmonies. That’s always been one of my strongest suits and I love the depth and emotion it can add to a song.
Along with being known for my lyricism and harmonies I think my role in my visuals and rollout is something I’d love to bring more attention to. I think it sets me apart from other artists because I’ve made almost all of my own cover art and promo thus far. That is of course, with the help of my right-hand girl Aubrey Wipfli who shoots all of my content and helps to bring my ideas to life. I love connecting the music to the visual translation and hope to continue to play a big part in my visuals throughout my career.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
There have been so many moments that I’m proud of but I’d say my most proud moment is actually the process of creating my debut project. I’ve spent the past year honing in on the sound and lyrics and am beyond excited to share it with the world. It feels so authentic and genuine to me so I’m proud of myself for the growth it’s taken to create it and cannot wait to see the response. The release will definitely be my biggest moment thus far.
