Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana Chiranian.
Tatiana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have had an eye for design since I was a little girl. My mom, Mariné, would often take me to work with her during my breaks from school and I would watch her in full action – at that time, she was working for a fashion design company, in the heart of Los Angeles, as a senior designer right out of college (FIDM). Years later, her career transitioned into the interior design industry which slowly led us to where we are now. I have learned and absorbed so much from her during my younger years (and now!) that I was confident I wanted to be just like her when I “grew up.”
During my teenage years, I began to appreciate and fall in love with interior design and architectural elements throughout the world. I was creative and immensely passionate about design therefore I decided to attend California State University of Northridge and obtained a Bachelor or Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with a focus in Interior Design and Architecture.
During my college years, my mother and I decide to join forces and become our own design team. We introduced Martati Designs in 2007 where we hosted home boutique shows and collaborated with vendors who created handmade and unique home decor and seasonal products. Our boutique shows were held in the comfort of our home studio and other establishments such as trade shows, fairs, charity events, etc. Throughout the years, our boutique shows evolved into planning and coordinating events from weddings to corporate events and interior design projects ranging from residential design, commercial design and home staging. It is such a blessing to be able to work together and have the same vision and see our projects come to fruition!
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road for us, nor is it now. Everyday is a learning experience and a new opportunity to strive and grow. One year ago, my mother was diagnosed with cancer and we put a halt to our design work. After a year of surgery, treatment and healing, I am thankful we are slowly getting back on our feet again with an even more positive approach to life and the future.
