Meet Tash Marconi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tash Marconi.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Tash. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born in Sydney Australia. I began dancing at the age of three and began working professionally at 16. I worked Commercially with artists and tv shows In Australia. Traveled to Beijing to be a soloist on a BMW launch show. Was a featured dancer in the feature film, Great Gatsby by Baz Luhrmann that filmed in Sydney. I worked as a resident dancer on six seasons of the X Factor, performed on the voice, danced for artists such as Taylor Swift, Jason Derulo, Kylie Minogue, Delta Goodrem, and Ricky Martin. I also toured Nationally in Australia and Singapore with the Musical Grease. And both the national tours of WICKED and Dirty Dancing

At the age of 24, I applied for my 01 work visa and upon receiving it made the big move to LA. Living here I have danced for many artists such as Nick Jonas, J LO, Kelly Clarkson, Paula Abdul, Luis Fonsi, and Natti Natasha. I have danced on Disney tv shows, the late late show with James Corden and danced at major award shows- American Music Awards, Billboard Awards, and teen choice awards. I also assist Choreographer Kyle Hanagami.

Nine months into my LA journey, I tore my ACL and had to move back home for a year for surgery and recovery. It was a rough road and one of the toughest challenges in my life but I finally got back to dancing and moved back to LA. I jumped back into work and have continued ticking goals and making connections and back dancing better than ever.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It certainly hasn’t. As a dancer, I’ve been injured many times. Countless sprained ankles, broken toes and an ACL reconstruction. Being injured is always a challenge because its hard to refrain from doing what you love. My knee surgery was the toughest, especially because I was finally feeling momentum in Los Angeles and my hard work was paying off. All of a sudden, I could barely walk let alone dance and I had all this free time to sit with my mind which was no doubt swelling with dark thoughts. Who Am I if I can’t dance ? will I dance again, and if not, what will I do Where is my purpose in life? Rehab was grueling – 5 days a week and intense to grow my muscle back and gain control. My first jog was at six months and my first dance class was at eight months, but I was nowhere near my usual performance.

I used the time to work on my self-love and care, to rewire my brain in terms of what success means to me and what the purpose of my path is. I believe it taught me an immense amount about myself and now can look back so grateful that I went through it. There are still some days when I catch myself mid-rehearsal and say “holy heck, I’m dancing !!!” like there was a time where I genuinely believed I wouldn’t be able to again.

My first performance back in LA was the American Music Awards an absolute dream of mine. I cried on stage as the crowd roared because not only was I dancing again, but I moved back to LA and kept pushing for those dreams!

Moving to another country is a whole other ballpark. I came from Australia, where I had a booming career and had a very established name in the industry. Landing in LA, it was starting from scratch again, a little flea in the big city. Needless to say, it was crushing at times. To not be given the opportunities I wanted to badly and to not be a known name. It took a lot of time and patience and hard work to slowly connect with more and more people and get my face seen. This industry has a lot of rejection, mix that with having hardly any friends and being so far from family and dear ones it definitely has had its depressing moments. But I want this dream so bad I’ve always pulled my head in, held it high and continued to persevere.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My business is a professional dancer. I am signed with BLOC in LA. I am trained in all styles but mostly work in Commercial, hip hop, and jazz genres. I perform behind artists, in film clips, tv shows, and award shows. I also have performed in Musicals. I am most proud of the wide variety of opportunities that I have experienced. From being a featured pointe dancer in the “Great Gatsby” to being one of two girls on tour with Paula Abdul to being in WICked as a triple threat and to assisting major choreographers such as Kyle Hanagami and the squared Division

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think truth and perseverance are most important to my success. There have been many times I’ve been told no and thought about throwing in the towel, but every time I got back up and pushed harder. I pride myself in my determination to constantly evolve, train hard and always be “ready” for what I want, I believe truth is incredibly important as an artist in this industry. It’s easy to feel like you need to pretend to be something or someone you are not, to do what others are doing and follow someone else footsteps but I believe the best path is when we are our truest selves. When you act daily with honesty in who you are, the morals you value, your unique artistry and talents and you shine your brightest “you” because no one else can be you, that is your treasure!!!
