Meet Taryn Collins of SoCal Wedding Consultant in Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taryn Collins.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
SoCal Wedding Consultant began in 2007. I’m the owner of the company and we have an AMAZING team of lead and assistant coordinators. After creating the business in Southern California, I spent several years in New York planning weddings while our team continued to cover SoCal. My background is in musical theater direction and that very easily lent itself to wedding planning, they’re almost identical in every aspect. Our couples love that we treat their wedding day as an event and that we manage every single tiny detail (I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sewn a button on!)

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Unbelievably, yes. Our business and relationships within the industry continue to grow every year. We’re very picky about the couples that we work with, so we very rarely run into a “bridezilla” or “groomzilla” situation. We’re very fortunate that we get to have such an amazing job.

Please tell us about SoCal Wedding Consultant.
We’re on the boutique end of wedding planning companies. That means that even our “month-of” coordination couples get lots of extra attention and love. Our events run the gamut from intimate, 10 guest backyard weddings to 500 guest, luxury Indian weddings.

We’re all about personalization for each of our couples; not just in the design of the day, but down to how they like to plan. Do they want a checklist of every single thing they’ll need to do in the future or just a few things at a time? We customize to keep the planning process as stress free as possible. We also use our own Planning Portal with which we can help our couples to track every detail of their day, timeline planning, vendor contacts, etc. It’s an amazing tool that we’ve worked for years to perfect.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have committed to it sooner. When I started planning, I didn’t know how much I would like it or if it would ever make the income to be a full-time job so I waited for a long time to really commit to advertising and networking. Our growth has been steady, which was fantastic in assisting me to take the leap into realizing that this was what I was meant to do.
