Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Zorthian.
Tara, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born on a windy stormy night in Taos New Mexico, the air was restless and my mother had a fever of 102, the world knew a danger zone was rolling through I guess, I was born into chaos and the chaos was born UNTO ME! My house in New Mexico was an underground earth ship run fully on solar power and rainwater, the environment of white owls and ufos and the general mysticism of New Mexico that surrounded me built me up into a large water carafe ready for the drinking. drip drip!! I moved to Los Angeles at 20 to a large Trash palace in the foothills of Altadena called Zorthian Ranch, called by the sirens of Trash and stardom baby. I wrote my first song at six years old (that I remember) and haven’t stopped since.
It took me a couple of years to find my little stars after moving here but once I did the ball started rolling and music started flowing right from our fingertips into our guitars and Tara and the Little Stars was born into existence. Currently, the band contains Donnie Pepper on drums, Coleman Moore on Bass, Ryan Hailey on lead guitar and me!! We (the band) are the island, and they (the audience) are the ocean surrounding us crashing waves upon our shore and rocking us back and forth, passing us anemones and squishy fishies. Its a syncopatic codependent interdependent relationship made up of joy and sometimes tears.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Once I started pursuing what I love, things fell into place like feet in fuzzy shoes. The party started when I first played music live for people at my favorite venue (sunspace) on my favorite day (unusual Tuesdays), and when people seemed to enjoy what I was putting on the table, a whole feast started cooking, and the party hasn’t stopped since then. The right people have zipped in zapped in front of my face at exactly the right time and I just love my friends ok and I just love singing and painting ok. Some struggles include; an oppressive government using debt, colonialism, and fear to turn us all against each other.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Hey ok, I know we’re great and others do too. We were shot onto this earth from the vast universe destined to make music and now we spread the love with good jams and jellies , Coleman is the hottest member of the band, Donnie steers the ship onwards to fate and interesting time signatures, Ryan brings the heat of dance and I write the songs and sing them with the force of all my interplanetary influences such as the moon and the flowers that grow on the earth and venus, ok !! We’re known for the song “BLUE ORB” our one-hit wonder, where I really belt it out there. The people love a good belting. My friend Marlon Savinelli made a music video for it, it’s really good! Watch it!
