Hi Tara, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Thailand, in a very sexually conservative environment. I would have never thought in a million years that I would have a sex and relationship coaching business one day. I moved to the US to get my Master’s degree in interpersonal communication. During this time, I was able to teach undergraduate classes, so I fell in love with teaching. I decided to pursue a PhD in human communication and become a college professor. Since graduate school, I’ve always studied relationships. I find relationships fascinating because good relationships can fuel us to become our best selves, while bad ones can tear our souls and leave us in shambles. Love is a powerful force, so I wanted to become very good at relationships and help people do the same. I started my sex and relationship coaching practice, LUVBITES, over three years ago to help individuals and couples find, maintain, and enhance their relationships. It’s a highly rewarding job. About a year later, I started Luvbites.co TikTok to create positive sex and relationship education content. The account has grown to 2.1 million followers today. I’m grateful to spend every day trying to normalize sex positivity.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There were a few struggles. First, it’s hard to advertise your sex and relationship coaching business on social media because of the sex-related content ban. Second, people who dislike sex positivity leave negative comments and emails. It’s discouraging, but I know I can still help millions of people so that aspect keeps me hopeful. Third, it’s much harder to monetize my TikTok and Instagram because sex-related content (even education!) is not eligible for monetization.
