Meet Tara and Charles Probst of Moment in Time Photography in Riverside

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara and Charles Probst.

Tara and Charles, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Tara- I was a stay at home mom expecting my second son when my husband bought me my first camera. I would say my passion for photography just exploded from there. I studied up, practiced often and we started taking photos of family and friends part time for the first year. We’re now four years into the business, I run it full time and have recently picked up a studio space that I absolutely love. Charles assists me at photo sessions when he isn’t working. I couldn’t do this without him, and I wouldn’t want to.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Tara- I don’t think being a business owner is ever a smooth road. It’s been a lot of trial and error. Being a business owner and a creative can be so personal because you are really selling a piece of yourself to your clients. Living in an area that is so heavily saturated with other photographers was a hurdle that took me a little while to overcome, once I stopped seeing them as competition, I was able to really just focus on growing our business and it has thrived ever since.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Moment in Time Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
Tara- We consider ourselves photographers of all of life’s moments. From Seniors to Weddings, Births to Families, we just love it all. We offer many different types of photo sessions but I am definitely most known for my newborn photography. I just love capturing authentic interaction and genuine emotion from my clients. Before becoming a stay at home mom, I met my husband at the place he still works, I really missed working with him and running this business together has been so fun working with him again. Nothing makes me prouder of my work than a client breaking down to tears as we view their images and knowing that they will be able to cherish those moments I captured for the rest of their life. I put so much time and effort into getting to know my client(s) so that I know their wants/needs from their photo session and I do everything I can to make sure that I exceed their expectations.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We don’t believe in luck. It’s been a lot of heavy prayer and hard work.
