Meet Tara LeGall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara LeGall.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was always interested in art. Since before I can remember I would draw, paint, take photos, every chance I got. As I grew older I started to focus on Fashion and that’s still a big part of my world, but it wasn’t until after college that I started to explore painting as a career. I took some random paint classes and started to try new things at home and something in me just clicked. I started to paintings for the homes of some of my dad’s clients and after that things started to take off. I begin experimenting with abstract art, portrait, and some surrealism. I began looking into art shows and galleries and after some time I got into some and it really boosted me to where I am now. I would considering myself an emerging artist, but I hope to establish my career more now that I am back in LA and continue to pursue my dreams.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
At first, it felt smooth. Doing work for people’s homes was a lot of fun and it helped get the word out about me, but once I really started to buckled down on my art and paint what I wanted to paint things were up and down. I had to essential find a new base of customers that would buy my art and also galleries that were looking for the types of things I was painting. Today I finally feel like I found my true voice as an artist and so now it’s a matter of once again going out to the right spaces and people who will appreciate it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a Painter first, but also an Illustrator and Stylist, and let’s add aspiring Costume Designer to the mix. If you were asked to people who know they would either say they are known for my paintings or my style. I’m most proud of my paintings. Looking back over what I’ve created over the years I really have evolved and pushed myself out of my comfort zone. I have gotten into exhibits and shows that I never thought possible at one point and sold more work than I thought I could. I am proud that I just haven’t given up and now that I’ve moved back to Cali I can continue to push myself to accomplish even more. And think what sets me apart is that I am a ‘Jack of all trades” as they say. I have the ability to adapt my creativity whatever the task may be. Whether it’s painting, or designing, or illustration, I can tackle it.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I’ve learned that at the end of the day, you can figure it out. There’s a book called, ‘Everything is figureoutable’ and its the truth. I mean you looking back we all had to just figure out what we could do with what we had. It’s like ok so we’re all home, what are we doing with our time? What are learning? What are we trying? For me, Covid-19 lockdown gave me time. I had nothing but time to work on my art and try new things and experiment. And being back at work, I’m thankful I had that time to not only get to know myself but get to know my art in a new way.
