Meet Tanya Davis of Bladed Beauty Microblading

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Davis.

Tanya, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started or got into microblading in 2016. I was working on Rodeo Drive in retail. A friend came to me with this idea to work for ourselves and I’ve always wanted to be able to visit my family more, in Seattle and Atlanta, so I researched everything, went for it and never looked back! I fell in love with being able to make people feel good about their appearance. Their results and happiness with their new look got the word out and the ball rolling, for business, so I am currently taking appointments here in LA, Seattle and Atlanta and It just makes my heart smile.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Well, it hasn’t been smooth the entire way. I went to class thinking it was going to be quick and easy (a 5-day training) and then I can work and make money, but when I was finished with the class, there were sooooo many other aspects of the business that I didn’t anticipate. Some of those aspects were… the abundance of paperwork with the city, taking your BBP test, getting insurance, getting models and feeling comfortable and confident in your work, as well as finding a place to work from and buying all of the supplies that are needed. And with me, I didn’t feel very confident after my training, so I definitely had to take another to feel comfortable enough to do some live models. FYI…the good classes are not cheap and neither are the supplies.

So if you want to get into microblading, please know that it’s going to take patience to be good, money for all supplies and insurance after class, hard work to find a place to work from (that is approved by the state), and a ton of know-how on advertising and setting up a legit business. Do your research on schools. And no, you can NOT learn all about microblading in two or 3 days. I took classes with 4 different schools (for different techniqes)-2 here in LA, San Diego, and Florida and I still feel like I have more to learn even though I started three years ago. I love what I do. But for me It took patience to master the measuring and drawing of the brows, as well as actually placing the strokes with the right shape and color. I’m pretty darn good at it now!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into Bladed Beauty Microblading story. Tell us more about the business.
I do microblading which is, in conversational terms, etching each hair stroke into the brow to look like eyebrow hairs. I also do ombre powder brows, which will look more like you have powder makeup on your brows.

I feel that what sets me apart from other artists is that, even though I stay up on the latest techniques and trends, I am still BIG on making everything look as natural as possible. I feel that if you want a more dramatic look, you can always use makeup. Also, I will turn people away if I don’t think that they would be a good candidate for microblading or if I don’t feel like I’m the artist for them (say they want their brows almost touching each other in the front like a unibrow). That would be a no for me and I would encourage them to look elsewhere. I am not in it just for the money. I really want people to feel good about themselves and for me to have peace of mind while doing it.

Aside from microblading and ombre powder brows, I also do removals (of previous microblading), small body tattoos and color corrections of microblading (which means that I can correct the red, blueish or grey color from the previous tattoo).

During the treatment: We have so much fun. I love making my clients feel comfortable. So we listen to music, talk, laugh and share stories. I learn so much from my them that I only wonder why I haven’t done this sooner!

Pricing:

  • Yes, my prices are reflected on my website. However, microblading or Ombre is $550 and include the touchup
  • Combo brows (strokes and powder) is $600 and also includes the touchup
  • Removals $150 per sessions

*Payments can be broken up to pay for initial treatment at time of service and the remainder at the touch up. So you’d pay $425 now and then $125 at touch up.
