Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanna Marie.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
After going through a really rough split from my ex-husband, I fell into a deep depression. I had a seven month old to take care of and life as I knew it was completely flipped upside down. It had been years since I had sung or written any music. During a very dark period where I was drinking a lot I wrote a song. It was my first original song. That song helped me realize I didn’t have to stay alive for just my son. I was free to create a new life finally following my passion of singing and music. I performed that song about six months later at a talent showcase in the mall & from there met some amazing people who I started to work with. The first major move in my music career however was going to the Jam, an open mic hosted by Jamila Wimberly and Ninja Karaoke in the heart of Downtown Las Vegas. I sang there & was instantly asked to be a featured artist the following week. From there I started singing all around town! First small gigs without pay and suddenly I was getting paid to do what I love and playing some big venues out here in Vegas like the Bunkhouse and Container Park. I had some shows lined up in LA before this Corona Virus came and threw a curveball but in the meantime, I’ve released my first single, “vibes” on all music platforms and it’s doing better than even I imagined. I’m really proud at how far I’ve come not just in my music career but as a mom and person. I can show my son that he can get through anything and to never stop following his dreams.
Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely not. I battled time and time again with depression/anxiety all while trying to be a good mom to a very energetic, smart little boy. It took therapy, new friends, a new job, my family & all of my music to help me grow into the artist I am today. I think that’s what makes my music relatable. It’s me being honest and vulnerable.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a singer, songwriter who specializes in honesty and vulnerability who just happens to have a pretty strong pen game haha. Going off what fans of my music have told me- I’m known for the vibe I bring on stage and relatable lyrics sung with passion and intensity. I think that’s what sets me apart, people can feel my pain, my struggle and my heart in my songs.
What has been the proudest moment of your career so far?
Hmm…this one is hard. There’s been so many moments that I’m very proud of from winning a Jammy for Breakout Artist of the year (it’s like a Grammy from the Jam open mic) to getting a full hour gig at the Container park with my friends and family there. But if I’m being completely honest, it has to be finally recording and releasing music. The other day I was driving with my song playing & someone literally yelled at me from their car to ask what song was playing & when I said me they geeked out! They then told me they could hear me on a Masego playlist which blew my mind because I look up to him so much artistically and want to work with him! I doubted myself a lot at the beginning but not anymore.
