Dreamy Vegan was created as a homage to my great-grandmother, Meme. Meme was a motivating inspiration who poured a lot of love into her family and food. You would often find her out in the garden cultivating fresh foods, cooking in the house, or out in her church community making an impact. Another fortifying attribute she honed was making ice cream from scratch especially during the holidays. Between her, my great-grandfather as well as my great-uncles, they were all overseeing the garage where the ice cream machine was in use. These moments helped lay the foundation to the ideation of Dreamy Vegan. Another reason that compelled me derived from my health complications as a kid. As an adolescent, I was severely allergic to many foods causing many trips to the ER. It was a trifecta of ailments ranging from asthma, and allergies to eczema. As I became of age, I explored healthier food options to help combat my allergies. My family, friends, great childhood moments of nostalgia, and dietary complications propelled me to form Dreamy Vegan. Dreamy Vegan is anchored in love. It brings you back to childhood with loving moments with family and friends while providing a healthier alternative for those with food sensitivities.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not. As a first-generation college graduate as well as business owner, my way of learning forged a path of resilience and determination for success. If it is something that I wholeheartedly believe in, nothing will dissuade me from overcoming obstacles to achieve. Patience and persistence most certainly pays off!
Developing an ice cream business, yet alone a food business, in general comes with many lessons. One of the major challenges that is faced is obtaining all of the required licenses and permits. It became problematic when I realized that many county and state processing systems are antiquated especially when it comes to veganism. On a brighter note, there is a slow pivot unfolding that exhibits signs of progress.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Do your research. Gauge the industry of interest. Be inquisitive and ask a lot of questions. Talk to people who have done and are doing what you desire. Don’t forget to be persistent and patient when needed.
