Meet Tanisha LaVerne Grant

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanisha LaVerne Grant.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Tanisha LaVerne. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I am an independent entertainment journalist and red carpet correspondent, a broadcast entrepreneur who has complete ownership every single interview I conduct in the entertainment news journalism space. My interest and skill as a journalist was cultivated as a young 16-year-old high school student who was hand selected to participate in the KYW NEWS RADIO fellowship. So at age 16, I stepped into a newsroom in Philadelphia the 4th largest market in media. I went on to become editor in chief of my high school newspaper followed by majoring in Communication Arts at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania the Nations oldest HBCU where I received my BA in Communication Arts and also held the title Miss Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. During my senior year at Cheyney, I obtained an internship at WCAU NBC 10 and my internship turned into a full-time job as an assignment editor.

Has it been a smooth road?
One of biggest challenges I face as a black journalist is obtaining access to large tentpole events that lack diversity. Most black journalists especially those who work for black media outlets are often put at the very end of the carpet when covering red carpet activations. It is imperative to identify allies who are the key decision makers to advocate for my presence as a solid entertainment journalist and red carpet correspondent in the “Hollywood Space.”

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am multi award-winning broadcast entrepreneur, entertainment journalist and red carpet correspondent who delivers well-curated content and thought-provoking interviews. A favorite among the “Hollywood Elite” for asking well-crafted questions and being well informed of their careers and the business of show business.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
HOLLYWOOD still remains the best place to have a career as an entertainment journalist. This market is saturated with opportunities in film, television, and streaming services. I would definitely recommend starting out here. If you have a phone with a recorder and camera you have the hard tools. The next course of action is learning how to interview and tell story coupled with mastering storytelling technology.
