Meet Tanisha D. Davis of FEMI Magazine in Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanisha D. Davis.

Tanisha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started out in this field initially as a Radio Host for Starrdom100 Radio Show, which is a podcast that I founded in 2015 that streams digitally on multiple platforms including Spotify, iTunes, and iHeart radio. I’ve always had a passion for writing since the age of 13, and being able to have guests on the show and then later blog about those interviews was really exciting to me.

Just listening to people about their life and how they overcame struggles to go on to launch businesses was fascinating to me. That led me to seeking work opportunities in journalism which resulted in me now having worked in media for over six years for multiple media outlets and two publications. I have even worked as a Celebrity Assistant and worked on film sets as a Producer.

After being faithful for years to multiple publications, helping in Public Relations and receiving so much recognition for my work, I knew it was now time for me to expand my talents. I wanted to be able to help share the stories of more people who were working hard in their communities and in their own way were also Celebrities. These people like myself were worthy of having their voices heard. So this year while many like myself were in Quarantine, I followed what God had placed in my heart to do and launched FEMI Magazine along with a business partner Calvin Howard.

Has it been a smooth road?
When you are stepping out on faith to do something that others feel may be risky, it is never easy. Especially when you are stepping out brand new into a field where so many others have been at for years. For me that was okay because it was a challenge I was ready and built for. In this industry, we all can win. I had so many people who knew me for writing for this publication or that publication for so long. So the struggle within that is reminding yourself that you are worthy and you have what it takes to do something amazing! Something that is going to change lives! You do not have to suffocate your levels to success by staying in a comfort zone to impress people.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with FEMI Magazine – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
FEMI Magazine is devoted to sharing stories within the black community as well as shining the light on amazing individuals in entertainment, fashion, business, health and so much more. The name FEMI is an African name which means “adored by God,” so the platform definitely has God at the root of everything we do. What I love is that this company allows me to open the doors freely to everyday people no matter their status or social media following and let their voices be heard. I love that our focus is really on the people who matter and not just on us because we have a platform. What sets us apart and will forever set us apart is that we are not blinded by social status, fame and numbers, that will never be our story and those will never be the only stories to grace our covers or pages.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I love about LA is that it is a city where dreams turn into reality! If you believe in yourself and work hard, you can come here and be whoever you want to be. The downside is that if you come here with no real plan, you can easily lose it all. Life is not just about dreaming but having a plan to furnish the dreams.
